wow, today is my LastEver humpday
wow, today is my LastEver humpday
wow. i took a six-month leave from work, basically so that i could have a month off to go to burning man, and the more i think about the more there is no way i can come back to the desk job, and since i leave on friday, that makes this my LastEver Humpday.
i would like to thank my wonderful parents, the academy, jesus...
seriously, i'm not quite sure what i am going to do after two months -- july will be a full-time training course, aug will be my road trip down to nevada through vancouver, then ?? -- but already i feel lighter and freer. no more MS Office! no more New Updates Are Ready To Be Installed. no more Unknown Error. today i was told "Your password expires in 7 days. Do you want to update it now?" and i said NO. on friday i will turn in my keycard and VPN token and that'll be it. benefits last til july 31.
oh the summer time's a-coming
see the leaves are sweetly turning
and the wild mountain thyme
blooms across the purple heather,
will you go, lassie, go?
if you will not go with me
i will surely find another
to pull wild moutain thyme
from across the purple heather,
will you go, lassie, go?
and we'll all go together
to pull wild mountain thyme
all across the purple heather
will you go, lassie, go?
if anyone wants to not come back after burning man... i want to take the very very long way home. take me to boston? come with me to montreal?

I'm jealous! I had the chance to just take off a couple of years ago and regret not doing it. A few months in SE Asia, do the Appalachian trail, plenty of time to think about what I want to do next while I reset my body and mind. But I chickened out. I'm working my way back up to it now - it'll take me a while to be where I want to be financially.
Congratulations!
Congratulations!

I've had a little trouble getting the time off work, and have expressed to my superiors that the time off means more to me than the job. We'll see where that gets me. In any case, congratulations on casting off the shackles of the workaday desk life. Find me on the playa; as part of my own tradition, I'm obliged to buy you a beer.
I am the people your parents warned you about.

Awesome!!!
You can find other jobs. You were lookin' for one when you found that one, right?
I suspect when you are in your waining days and you look back over your life, this will be one of those choices you don't regret. Nice exit song too.
I've got to dig up a Sterling Hayden quote and post it here for you...
I'll be back.

"To be truly challenging, a voyage, like a life, must rest on a firm foundation of financial unrest. Otherwise, you are doomed to a routine traverse, the kind known to yachtsmen who play with their boats at sea... "cruising" it is called. Voyaging belongs to seamen, and to the wanderers of the world who cannot, or will not, fit in. If you are contemplating a voyage and you have the means, abandon the venture until your fortunes change. Only then will you know what the sea is all about.
"I've always wanted to sail to the south seas, but I can't afford it." What these men can't afford is not to go. They are enmeshed in the cancerous discipline of "security." And in the worship of security we fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine - and before we know it our lives are gone.
What does a man need - really need? A few pounds of food each day, heat and shelter, six feet to lie down in - and some form of working activity that will yield a sense of accomplishment. That's all - in the material sense, and we know it. But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortgages, preposterous gadgetry, playthings that divert our attention for the sheer idiocy of the charade.
The years thunder by, The dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it, the tomb is sealed.
Where, then, lies the answer? In choice. Which shall it be: bankruptcy of purse or bankruptcy of life?"

today is my LastEver Turkey Thursday. they do have a nice cafeteria here that makes turkey dinner every thursday for lunch, and that is half of what has kept me here these seven years. if you ask nicely they will make you a hot wrap with cranberry sauce, and sometimes grilled vegetables.
i feel like in my soul there is that kind of unrest, i'm not sure what i'm going to lean on inside me but i know it will be there when i need it. i KNOW it! i just know it.
here is one for you :
all men will be sailors, then
until the sea shall free them
the wanderer, eh. it is funny how old a story it is to hit the road. i am glad i found someone so trustworthy to take care of my kitten, although i will miss her. such cute little looks she gives me. and she sleeps up high in the linen closet.
i will see you cats at the eplaya meet & greet for sure : ) i am still looking for more outrageous costumes. i think for thursday night perhaps it'll be : beat poet
just will need a cigarillo.
ok, turkey time
i like that. although i am pretty well taken care of financially this summer, i think. i am lucky that way. i have to be a little careful, moderate. but that is good, too.LeChatNoir wrote:"To be truly challenging, a voyage, like a life, must rest on a firm foundation of financial unrest.
