A sidebar here... just curious if anyone can tell what the image used for my avatar is a picture of. I ask because if you are familiar with it, it will probably open up some intriguing conversation as well as introduce me to folks that have an interest in this sort of thing...

looks like an xray of some type, looks dental related to me, or turn up the juice and it could be a welded joint xray.

yes Nick. this is a psychological test, but only in the sense that I am trying to locate some other weirded-out-sci-fi-freak-geeks on the playa to hunt down when I arrive on Aug. 27.
the photo is a satellite image of Groom Lake - also known as Nevada Test Site Area 51. The hangars with all their wiz-bang technologies are located just under the chin of the face. The long diagonal line is the 2 1/2 mile long airstrip that is used for the myriad of test flights they conduct there.
Anyway, I'm just looking for spook geeks that are fascinated with all those great out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere locations throughout the U.S. - not the least of which includes Hangar 18, and folks, it isn't where most people think it is.
Now if I can just figure out where MozyBonz's satellite image is from - give me time, I'll figure it out.
So Bambi of Finland was closest on the mark.

Great close-up link to the Groom Lake Test Facility, Isotopia. Now, if you want to dive a little deeper, take a closer look at the two radiating arcs that increase in diameter starting from the right side of the lakebed and (one of which) ends up at the start of the paved part of the 2 1/2 mile runway. Any takers?

good answers... I like teo's the best as he's got the right idea. It's all about physics - think centrifugal force. sorry, badger.. underground tests were over at areas one and three about 18 miles to the southwest.

While I was doing some other shit and researching stuff. I had posted this before and noticed your recent post about the centerfugal design which makes sense to my thesis below:

it looks like a monorail system. Too narrow for a car if you are talking about the same ones, but said something about them starting on the right. These start on the right and end on the upper right side of the playa.

The image purposely has a screening layer over it to block elements and soften the image. In some areas it looks like dust storm blocking the surface.

The sheer number of underground cave-ins are amazing to the west. Those bombs had to cause damage in the vegas area.

so it seems that they were testing some kind of propulsion system and observing g-force dymanics! It does look, but it could be because of the shady overlayer, that the monorail system is in ill-repair. An outdated system used many years ago.
