Single and Not Creepy...
So I have seen a lot of posts talking or asking about sexual relations at BM, and one phrase keeps coming up all the time: "Single, Creepy Men."
This will be my 7th year. Now, the first three years I went I had a girlfriend; which made me not creepy. Two of the following three years I was single, but randomly (and unexpectedly) hooked up with people on the playa. What I am getting at is...does the simple fact that you are a single guy who wouldn't mind getting laid make you creepy?
You want to know creepy? Those guys with cameras on bikes who are just riding around and taking pictures of naked women (critical tits people know about this). That's all they do!
What I really want to say is that I AM NOT CREEPY!! I DO like to see pretty naked women though; so, ladies, if you see a guy walking around with a shirt on that says "I am single and NOT CREEPY" then you're safe - I will not take your picture!
Laughs from me; I think this is all funny, but, on a serious note, I have known ladies to get seriously harrassed out there; so be warned that it doesn't stand on the playa or anywhere!!!!

You're right...
Lol, you guys got me...yeah, I would take some photos, but only when I ask and it is appropriate; I guess I was just talking about those guys that do nothing but ride around and take candid naked photos. And, of course, those words make everything worth while...

I think it's possible to stereotype anything, even creepy sex predators .... there's no book of guidelines on how they act, so the easiest and safest way is to keep coming back to the basic rule ; BR is a City, and just like any other it is likely to hold perverts

Back in the day, close to one of the first burns, I was approached by this woman ( I wont mention any names, who is rather as grey haired as I am now and did the original fire dance, tho she will deny this.) came up to me and said, "uuummmm yummy, Hershey chocolate. Take off your clothes". ( i have witnesses with me right now. never the less.......)
At the time I thought she was rather creepy. Then once I got to know her, or at least find out who she was, I thought maybe I misjudged her. Later, she thought I was creepy.
Go figure.
Fact is, at BM, just be yourself and make sure you are careful with what you do as in any situation in the real world.
It also helps to be nice and curtious and respectful. (sp.)
I have found the most intelligent females/people at BM, and it has forever changed my life. i have made many friends for life on the playa.
The experience you have is that what you make, and can be magical.
try not to mess it up.

I asked a woman to define this once.
To her it meant people she didn't want to fuck.
Same thing applied to people she didn't want to see naked.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

While at my first burn I was riding around in my birthday suit and a woman close to my age said "Ooohhh, I like your outfit". Took it as a complmant but did'nt push it any futher. I have one question. Why would anyone spend thousands of their hard earned money (Not including possible lost OT pay from time off from work, which could happen in my case), to live in dusty, squalar, miserable conditions for a week, just to POSSIBLY see some naked woman prancing around a desert? Hell, I can drive to lake tahoe in 45 minutes and see that for free, minus a gallon or two of gas to get there. I want to take pictures of art, art cars and bikes, mutant vehicles, fire dancers, weather conditions, sun rises and sunsets, but if I'm gonna be steriotyped, I won't bring my camera. Even if it is a 35mm (so I can't post pictures on the internet) and not a digital.
I know a few websites that will give it up for free and you never have to leave home. Go Green! Save the gas and look at boobies on the internet.Thecatman wrote:Hell, I can drive to lake tahoe in 45 minutes and see that for free, minus a gallon or two of gas to get there.

Sorry, that's not true. I haven't taken a pic for the last 2 years. There are so many taken by other camp mates of mine, I just get a digital copy on CD, so my camera stays clean at home.
If however, you want to take pics, PLEASE ask first. It's the right thing to do. Plus, it's an added compliment, because you KNOW someone is taking your photo because they like what you look like.
BRC is a city, unlike any other, so there are all kinds of people (read creeps). In one way or another we are ALL creepy to someone else.
If you are at BM just to look at some naked tits, then you lead a VERY sad life. Thru the generosity of others you will see what you want, I just hope you pay for it with some karma somehow.

Chillax, dude.
Yeah, I agree with Mozy.
I think the BMORG should do more to inform people/newbies that you MUST ask before taking a pic of someone. Even if someone else is already taking a pic, it's the right thing to do. Even in this city of few laws, there are some common curtesy rules that should always be followed.

Please, please, please don't make it a rule. Treat the ass with the camera like he or she should be treated- if it's digital & they didn't ask first, request the photo(s) be deleted. If they won't do it, ask a Ranger to assist. There are already rules about camera's in BRC, and, trust me, once someone is called out they will think before they do it again.Trixy wrote:I think the BMORG should do more to inform people/newbies that you MUST ask before taking a pic of someone.
Take the responsibility yourself, don't make the LLC come up with yet another layer of rules for everybody.
(This is from a photographer. I've been shooting clubs & events for over a decade. I ask first.)

Always Ask
I volunteer for the Media Mecca, and we tell this to all the photographers for Media to Ask and cary a Model's contract if you get permission, expecially for later comercial use. Unfortunately personal use camera users are at their own discretion, however, dont be scared to ask some person to delete a photo of you, as you may instill the virtues of the ever so elusive 'Common-Sence'

For those who go nude, it might interest you that it is invariably women who complain to me that I don't have any shots of naked people.munney wrote::lol: Ask, Always Ask, always Ask, Ask Always, and Always Ask....

:P Lest we Forget that Creepy is in the pants of the Beholder. :P
There are some times that it is obvious that you don't need to ask, but it is easy to tell when that happens.
I think there may be times when you have to get a shot to avoid losing it and then ask, but it hasn't come up for me.
There are plenty of people you would have to hit with a stick, to get them to stop posing.

As a non pro photographer, and never having looked it up, is it possible to withdraw a release after the fact? - say you dont like how it turns out, or is used in a manner inconsistent with the original intent. I see this as fraud, but dont know if it is baseless as most release are very broad in language?
Just wondering if there is a professional ethic concerning withdrawal, or a precedent?
later and thx.

I don't know the law on this, but some contracts for this can be very specific.
Some do require final approval.
Magazines often get very particular contracts.
I am submitting something to a very prestigious journal and my contract will include final approval and reuse of all material, words and images.
I am also asking for usa reprint rights after a certain period, with credits for the original publication.
Very unusual circumstances in this case though.
Vague photo releases have been fought over in court.
That's always fun.
I would think you would have a better chance the sooner you acted, especially before publication.
Some photos don't require a release, of course.

Ok, maybe asking the LLC to enforce this is not what I meant. I certainly don't want more "regulations/rules" to be enforced by anyone. I simply meant that I don't recall it being very stand-out in the info that you should ask first, not saying it's not there, just doesn't stand out to me. There are a lot of pieces of info to absorb, and maybe that didn't settle in for me, but I think that's the case with lot of people.
I agree fully, we should know to ask first out of common curtesy and respect for another person.
I REALLY like the idea of asking someone to erase a pic on digital if no consent was made, it would really make that person think before the next pic is taken. I don't want to stop pic taking, and I certainly don't want my pic to not be taken (camera whore here), just want people to ask first, and do it more often. Over the last 5 years, I have noticed it happen more often, but wish it happened all the time.
I also understand that some shot's need to be taken before permission is asked, that's how "art" happens sometimes. And I think it's ok to ask after the fact, and if no is the answer, just delete that pic in front of the person.
I say less government, less rules, less enforcement. Keep it safe and sane.

I don't take many pictures, most of the ones I do take the subject gets a copy, quite often on a stamped postcard to mail home, but I wanna say that always having to ask if you can take someones photo can spoil the picture that you saw. When people know that a picture is being taken they pose. What I offer instead is.. hi.. i just took a really cool picture of you, here take a look.. wanna copy? can i keep it? Damn you're saucy!
