Freedom!
Puerto Rico, my heart's devotion
Let it slip back in the ocean
Always the hurricanes blowing
Always the population growing
And the money owing
And the sunlight streaming
And the natives steaming
I like the isle of Manhattan
Smoke on your pipe and put that in it
I like to be in America
OK by me in America
Everything free in America
Puerto Rico, my heart's devotion
Let it slip back in the ocean
Always the hurricanes blowing
Always the population growing
And the money owing
And the sunlight streaming
And the natives steaming
I like the isle of Manhattan
Smoke on your pipe and put that in it

Now that poem of "Freedom!" would fit in well with the "World Dream" theme. The BMORG can easily transition to a world flavour instead of the limiting one they've slapped down on the burner.

ZaphodBurner, you almost made me crap my pants! There certainly is much too much whining on the playa. Much too much! With the exception of "Hat" (at least in the way I think of it, i.e., 'uniquely created art for the discerning noggin'), the negative elements we associate with Burning Man are luckily few and almost entirely listed in your entry. Of course there are good and bad things about the BMORG and the Default world. And of course, E can be rather entertaining although hardly the end all to a great burn. I've done the burns sober- much of the time -and never on E, although I wish I swapped spit at the Smooch Dome when it was aloft on the playa. I do so love a good snog and I don't need to be on E to do it, so there!!

Burning Man 2008: Tabula Rasa
I think the theme should always be Tabula Rasa....in other words, we should not have themes. Yes, I am one of those anti-theme people and I am proud. :-)
Hmm. The streets need to go to at least "L", so we need a few more.2008: Whining Man

(O.K., probably not the best continuation, but what I could come up with at a moment's notice. Better suggestions more than welcome!)

show your passion & organize early, bitches!
it's the biggest open secret on the playa: the 2008 theme is secretly PASSION
(anything else you've heard is just silly nonsense)
To properly observe the real 2008 theme, everyone with a theme camp should go to the "2008 Theme Camp" ePlaya area & post something about what INSPIRES THEIR PASSION for next year...

(OMG I just did that... and it felt great!)

26 Streets for 08
In case you all haven't noticed, the city was kinda full this year. We're going to need the whole alphabet for 08. Since so far we are laboring (!) under (!) the ghastly theme of you-know-what, I propose the following for the street names:
ARCO
Bechtel
Chevron
Dinosaur
Exxon
Freighter
Gulf
Hess
Iraq
Kerr-Mcgee
LL&E
Mobile
NIOC
Occidental
Phillips
Quick, clean up the spill!
Royal
Shell
Toxic
Unocal
Vaalpro
Whale blubber
Yesterday
Zap
But my favorite idea still is to change to every-other-year. Give the whole thing a rest. Make it more meaningful. Let the creative energy flow to the regionals. Try something different.
sure....

If religion is a go then I won't like my placement on Zen street.
Every year somebody steals the street signs. Who's up to replace them with something sassy?

No last burn!!!! )'(
i really like the idea of "down to earth" theme. thats where we all should be and it would really make you think about it.
....everyone who doesn't like the american dream theme could either igore it, or percieve it however they like (the foundations of the american dream, the hopes for the american dream etc), or we could set up some kind of international refugee camp. the image of the playa wrapped in stars and stripes is no good but something can be done :)

I have a solution to existentialism if anybody wants to hear it. :)Absintine wrote:Existentialism-
A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one’s acts.
It's what you make it.

Street Signs
I'm working on a plan for street signs
... It will be posted soon as a thread. I wonder how many people care about it though.

chaos planning
um...
posting a plan will result in chaos... that's pretty much what I expect, but....
it would be so very nice to have lighted street sign that can't be stolen... I mean leave the painted wooden ones up and they can taken at will and replaced at will

Spidermonkey - no offense taken *kiss, kiss*
but I understand the nature of the "post"
we are working behind the scenes and hopefully under the radar for now instead of just complaining but I expect some hits none-the-less
hopefully i can afford enough alcohol to dull the pain
ALSO - I find it hypocritical that people bitch about BM changing and in the same sentence say it's becoming disneyland. WHAT? Disneyland never changes. McDonalds never changes.
BM should change - all the time. That's the fun. I'm glad it not the same all the time. I'm glad the theme is different every year. I like not knowing what to expect. I like the adventure.
If you want same - go to a default corporation and get your fix.
Um... now I feel better. *rant, rant* Now, back to work.

yes.. if there was not the freedom to bitch people would probably just be happy with all the wonderful things they do have/burning man gives, maybe just settle and be happy... freedom to bitch openly -- american dream..? aren't we all taking advantage of it right now?
