BWB going to Fernley

Post by yojessimac » Wed Jan 09, 2008 7:38 pm

Burners Without Borders is organizing a work weekend this weekend,
January 11-13, to help families affected by the flood in Fernley.

We have raised over $4000 from the global Burning Man community, and
can now put that to work providing housing ( in a hotel, which is
giving us a steep discount for volunteers) and meals for people who
can come help do the hard work of cleaning up mud, ripping out
carpets, cleaning and sorting household items--basically, being spare
hands to people who need help.

We would love love love to get as many people as possible in the area
to show up and help out; there's a person organizing a van from
Sacramento, and the Burning Man head office is considering giving
people Friday off work and sending up a 15 passenger van.

We may also be able to deliver some relief supplies, if we can get
them together.

This is a completely spontaneous response to the situation, evolving
day by day. So much support has been raised already, it would be
great to leverage that to get more help on the ground. Any money
raised in excess of what the volunteers need will go to direct relief
efforts in the hands of the affected residents.
