Good morning, class, welcome to the eplaya political sciences class.
Open your Wikipedias to this page:

Read with me:
Traditionally, an agent provocateur (plural: agents provocateur, French for "inciting agent") is a person employed by the police or other law enforcement body to act undercover and entice or provoke another person to commit an illegal act. More generally, the term may refer to person or group who provokes another to perform a wrong or rash action, the deliberate purpose being to incite wider conflict or harm.
Times are changing. You need to begin thinking like a coyote. Don't be an Addis.

During the Timber Salvage Rider days, a former paintball buddy of mine was one of these guys, working for a company in Eugene. Meanwhile, my contribution was to identify and expose these guys. Imagine his surprise when we ran into each other and I told him what he did for a living.

The last time I saw him he was working at HP. I asked him why he wasn't working for the timber industry anymore and he basically told me they were asking him to do things that were legally and ethically wrong. (in a nutshell, terrorism at places like Warner Creek.) One of the things they did is smear poison oak on the seats of a portable toilet brought out for the protest of a timber sale that was ultimately overturned due to illegal logging.

One A.P.'s video ended up in court and we found that guy by culling through other vids. He interviewed protestors and the video was hilarious in court, because he kept pointing the camera at one girl's tits as he was looking through the lens. She says "What's this for, PBS?" and he said *titcam* "Yeah." *titcam* A moment later, he actually says, verbatim, 'What's PBS?" Later on the video shows the license plates of everybody who was parked at the protest. By cross referencing the various video and photos that were taken it was possible to see the guy with the camera while he was interviewing/gawking at the girl. Funny shit if it wasn't so real.

Ironically, the whole time I was a spook for the treehuggers, they looked at us like were were COINTELPRO. Then we gave them a list of all the radio frequencies the BLM, USFS, logging companies and local police used so they could hear the kind of crap that was going on behind the scenes. That and a can of shut the fuck up. Freakin' hippies.

Ultimately a bunch of people went to trial for trespassing on public property, and over 1,000 arrests were thrown out as patently unconstitutional, but during one of the trials a dreadlocked AP caused a scene outside the courthouse that resulted in a metal detector getting tipped over, the police using pepper spray on the crowd, etc. Naturally, the knuckleheads in the media reported it as a bunch of protesters causing a riot.
