Hello!
My girlfriend and I are venturing to burning man for the 1st time and are looking to join a vibrant camp and share our skills....
I'm an experienced contact juggler (up to six spheres) and so am looking for other jugglers, or places to peform---
My girlfriend is a professional signwriter, and im getting there! .. so if you need large scale lettering, blackboards, any sort of signage , we can provide beautiful signs, quick... We will be around San Francisco from the 19th August, so have time to meet, prepare...
I play flute, guitar, percussion, and she plays Bassoon (though is a little weary about it getting trashed in the dust?!) recorder and piano, both to a fairly high standard.... we busk a fair amount of klezmer, London cockney knees-up tunes, and like to improv, and play some zappa-esque quirk music in a stripped down version of my band www.perhapscontraption.co.uk . --- aiming to do some gigs, story telling and spoken word performances...any pointers anyone?!
Last but not least, we are sand sculptors, i guess the logistics of sculpting in the desert are pretty tough (need a fair amount of water...) but i just thought i would mention just in case... check out www.sandalism.co.uk if you're interested.... we are hoping to busk on some beaches around San Fran before the burn, any tips on good places to do this?
of course we would be more than will to help with other crew duties/catering etc if required...
2 amiable creatives looking to enhance our experience as much as possible----- massive mirth-making ahoy!
Ok, phew! hope we can be of some assistance...

Hmm... perhaps if you are also accomplished neurosurgeons, and know the secrets of ninjitsu, then... you just might have an acceptable portfolio of skills to offer.
This is definitely a valid concern... unless money is no concern, you should consider that your instruments are likely to be permanently, er... adjusted by the intense shifts from blazing heat to nighttime chill, the extremely dry air and the alkaline content of the dust.squire squier wrote:she plays Bassoon (though is a little weary about it getting trashed in the dust?!)
Many camps need decent signs.
Even big camps often forget this.
A legible sign near the street (so it can be read at night) two sided is what is needed at a minimum.
So there's something big you can do for the city.
1 by 2 feet is okay on the street.
I have seen very expensive instruments out there.

the bassoon will be fine, we've had them in our camp before - it's the reeds that won't make it(use plastic ones - I know, I know....) - keep instruments in the case, wrapped in a plastic garbage bag and stored in the shade when not in use. Bring a spray bottle with vinegar/water mix to clean up the keys, and bring some glue for the pads - the heat *can* cause old glue to give up.
