Best sleeping bags for BRC?

What works best out there in BRC? I am sure they'll get Playa'ed with dust and what not, but what kind is recommended?

I find that a sleeping bag big enough for two is all i need.

that and as much padding as I can get iunderneath it realistically. Roll your bag up, and put it in a garbage bag sealed when not in use as well.

I would recommend a throw away bag, nice ones get ruined beyond cleaning, and cheap ones are less painful to throw away. You can get them at any of the mega styores for 10 bucks.

depending on what you want to sleep on....hard playa or air. Slept on the playa every day last year...brought an mattress, but passed out behind my bar each night.

Know where to find good free used sleeping bags? Truckstop dumpsters. When truckers quit, they're often far from home and just toss their bags. A good hot wash and you're in business. MyLarry has brought home quite a few in the last few months; the owner-ops are quitting in droves and they toss all kinds of good things into the dumpster at the company terminal.

We didn't have any spare bags until around April or May, now we have several. But I can't sleep in a bag and use sheets and blankets, LOL.

I like the 3-season bags for BM because if it's cold at night, i'm covered and if it's too warm you can use it as extra padding beneath you.

Louise and I have always used our regular camping bags. We have the kind that zip together and hold us both. They do get dusty, them sleeping bags they do get dusty, but when they get dusty, you try a little tenderness. We drop them in a commercial washer at the strip mall, and they're good as new. More or less. Eventually they get lumpy and stop being warm enough to camp in cold weather, but it takes years.

My suggestion is layers, though. It may get cold at night, and it may not. Have a summer weight bag and a thermal blanket and maybe a space blanket depending on how cold natured you are.

I have two old car-camping sleeping bags, you know, the flannel-lined square type...that unzip all the way and use them as comforters...don't care if they get dirty/dusty...sleep on top of a queen size air mattress inside a 10 x 11 tent. During the day everything is covered by an old sheet that I shake out before retiring...voila! dust-free bedding!

Cheap ass 3 pounder. You can find them at Wal Mart in the $10 to $12 range.

If you are staying all week, buy two and switch out your bag on Thursday.

A playa free night of slumber in a clean bag in the middle of the week is great.

I don't care what kind of bedding your using but the best tip is to have a LARGE SHEET to cover your bedding while not in use and carefully fold/roll it up before you go to sleep.. Nice clean bedding that way.. Yes even in the RV's

Drink alot, and anything will feel like heaven when you want to crash. Don't do what I just said!! Gets cold at night..so think you'll be fine.

Just a thought; not only sleeping bag-wise, but also bike-wise and whatever-else-wise, I keep seeing a lot of recommendations that point people to buying new stuff in places like Wal-Mart.

Now, of course consuming is good, since (y)our whole society is based upon it, but wouldn't it just be better to recommend people to have look in their average second-hand store? That's what I'm planning to do, cause if my stuff is gonna be so fucked up I'd have to throw it away, I'd rather throw away something that's been used before.

Just a thought, but I don't really feel that buying new stuff in cheap places like Wal-Mart (the root of all evil after all) and then throwing it away afterwards is in line with the whole philosophy behind Burning Man.

Anything that you buy NEW should be properly utilized before simply disposing of...Even a dusty sleeping bag can be donated to a shelter. (They wash in giganto batch loads.)
My two favorite burning-bags came from the local gospel mission thrift store- One just has cool planets on it BUT..the other is a jen-yoo-wine Empire Strikes Back original! Woot!
I sleep in my Element, and let me tell you- Their claim that you can make a "bed" by folding the front and back seats down and together is only true if you happen to have been born either without a spine or with a backwards one. The plain plastic floor panels are far more comfortable....especially if my butt's on Chewbacca.

The issue with buying second-hand in Reno is that by the time Burning Man rolls around most of the bikes and camping gear are completely cleaned out. I got my bike this year from a pawn shop, and all sorts of other fun stuff from trips to the local thrift stores, but I live here and I can shop in the off season. For the out-of-towners who need a bike from Reno and who come into town on the 24th, Wal-Mart is probably the most logical recommendation.
