fuel in alturas california on Sunday nite 8-24-08

Post by wedeliver » Thu Jul 31, 2008 9:30 am

I spoke with Gordon the manager of the Standard Gas Station at the corner of Hwy 395 and Hwy 299 in Alturas. He will stay open all night Sunday August 24th, 2008 to provide gasoline to people on the way to the burn.

This is not meant as an advertisment for the gas station but in years past folks have camped at the station waiting for it to open, this year he says he will be ready. Naturally Atluras gas prices are higher then anywhere else.

Also if you are coming from the Northwest and you want a place to rest, shower, get water and camp over night.. Our RV Park again offers those items free to people on there way to and from burningman. FREE (if ya want to hook up to power there will be a small charge)

We are located 26 miles south of Tulelake California just off Hwy 139

reservations at 530-664-2081
or
[email protected]

(just gives us a heads up on how many people we might be hosting)

Not to steal yer thunder, Wedeliver (and I might add a very generous offer)...the gas station in Cedarville is also usually open all hours during the Burn...at least is was last year.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

No thunder here. Only trying to help things move smoothly. Last year there must have been 50 vehicles of all type and discription parked in and around that standard gas station in Alturas. I allways fill up at the shell down the street anyway. And for cedarville, I wasn't really paying attention last year as we drove through just before sunrise on opening day, but I don't recall any lights on. In 2006 at midnight opening day it was all dark in Cedarville.

Wow wedeliver, your generosity is much appreciated. Can't estimate when we might pull through there but if it is when we are ready for rest we just might see you.

thanks again!

The Cedarville Station is now open again with only 24 hr pay @ the pump services, they haven't been open for cash sales as of late (no one is in the office), we'll know more about that closer to the end of the month, I hope, you will be able to get gas though. The Corner store is doing cash sales only for gas and that is the store on the opposite corner, extended hours for Burning Man yet to be determined-I will post a follow up as soon as I know more. (The same folks that ran the gas station last year are no longer running it this year.)

Update: The gas station in Cedarville will be open for cash sales (hours TBD) in addition to the 24 hr pay @ the pump services. So no worries, you will be able to fill up regardless in Cedarville as planned. There will also be additional restroom facilities this year. And plenty of places to get an Ice cold drink, check that email one last time, a scoop of ice cream,a bite to eat and those last minute supplies before heading out.

Look for the free town flyer for Burners available at all local businesses when you get into Cedarville & be sure to tune into 88.1 FM for more local information when you get into town.

**Also if this is your first year going to Burning Man via Cedarville, when you get into Cedarville Please turn SOUTH towards Eagleville. Going any other direction will only prolong your trip and make the whole experience miserable for you. Remember--South to Eagleville!

You can tell 'em over and over, then watch them blow through that stop sign in Cedarville heading east young man. Most of em make it all the way to gravel before "thinking" about it. My son was a perfect example. He said it was a nice drive past "some hot spring place" hahah

all in all it looks like it might be a pretty "smooth" year sailing into BRC, lots of "Vendors" available to make sure we got enough junk with us. Four Corners Market in Alturas is staying open all night sunday.. Holiday Market also in Alturas staying open at least 1 hour later (11:00pm) Standard Gas Station in Alturas open all night Sunday.

someone asked when to arrive on opening day, monday august 25, 2008 and the answer is yes....
