Realistic drive time, Reno --> Gerlach Monday night?
Realistic drive time, Reno --> Gerlach Monday night?
I'm planning on leaving Reno ~10pm on Monday night. Any ideas on realistic drive time to Gerlach, given time of day and likely traffic?
Monday night the event will have started already. Your ride should be about 2 hours from Reno. Expect some slower moving vehicles with lots of shit tied to the roofs and some towing trailers that look like they wouldn't make it to the end of the street.
Oh, how I love the parade of the burner vehicles on the "Road to Shambala"!

If you're driving at night PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE don't over drive your headlamps. There are cows in the road at night because the pavement is warmer than the dirt. If you drive fast and can't stop within the time you see a cow in your path, you will either hit the cow or swerve to avoid it and flip over.
You'll also overtake poor Burners whose tail lights you won't see for a variety of reasons and who are doing 45 or less with a trailer. Please drive so that you can stop within your lane when you need to do so.
It takes Louise and me two and a half hours to drive out the motel drive way in Reno until we pull into our camp space in BRC.

Me, too. I don't know it's real till I see a couch with rear view mirrors on it on someone's trailer. :->

Especially if that living thing is Louise or me. I hate reading about Burners killed in traffic accidents on the way there or on the way home.

No worries there, I'm all about safety on the drive. Coming from SF, so will be careful on the final stretch ...phil wrote:If you're driving at night PLEASEPLEASEPLEASE don't over drive your headlamps.
Phil, does that include a gas stop in Gerlach? Will it be smooth sailing through the greeter's line at 12:30a Tuesday morning?phil wrote: It takes Louise and me two and a half hours to drive out the motel drive way in Reno until we pull into our camp space in BRC.
Finally, will we get the benefit of a real greeting at that time (my fiance is a virgin).

We stop in Empire and get gas, browse through the store for a snack and cold drink. I think the other estimates of two hours to Gerlach are accurate - my extra half hour includes Empire, being greeted, and getting to the place we'll call home for a week.

Are the gas stations open late into the night there?
We're going to arrive around 1am tuesday morning and we would like a full tank when we park.
