As far as locking a tent up...
Look into getting tiny lil locks for luggage zippers. I used em, they can be picked but will deter most thieves at BM.
Sorry to hear ya got ripped off.. if it makes ya feel any better I was was robbed too. I was homeless camping and someone ripped off my primary supply bag with my food and water while I was sleeping. My camelbak was on my back at the time so they didn't get that.

It's just a sad commentary that we would have to lock a tent..........
Geeze.........it's like some excuse the thieves because your stuff isn't locked.
Oh, it's your fault, you didn't lock your tent.......
NO
.......maybe they're fuckwads, probably not in need, just stealing because they can.
But, even if they're in need, it's still not ok, just ask. Many, Many people will give you help if you ask, instead of steal........
Stealing isn't ok.........
Sure, in the human condition, we've all probably stolen something (s) at some time.......
But, as you're beating them in the street for going in your tent and taking your stuff, you'll probably be the one in trouble.
IMHO:
you have every right to complain about your stuff getting stolen.
Now, it may be asked "are you surprised" your stuff got taken?
Well, maybe you shouldn't be.........
But, you're well within bounds to expect your stuff to be left alone, and, hope for that with some confidence.

Locking or even sleeping in AT THE TIME of burgle apparently isnt enough for those who build their lives stealing from others.
A couple in our camp were actually sleeping in their RV when someone actually had the balls to come in and steal $ and jewelry, whilst under their noses.
So the way I see it....dont bring anything of value you cant completely lock up safe or wear.
The disease of thievery is alive and well in all cities...including ours.

Abus 24/50 disc lock 1/4" shackle (may be the best this size)
Abus T84MB/25 4mm shackle solid brass
A locking chest is a good idea.
Every vehicle should have a locking safe of some kind.
I find triple barb fish hooks strung through a likely target works well.
Be sure the line is fastened to something solid, like the frame of the car.
And don't forget, of course.
Locking straps may work on a tent, or cables.
Hard to make cutter proof though.
Abus 150/40C designed for the visually impaired- combination lock 9/32" shackle.
Abus 6 KS 1/4" alloy square chain- ranges up to 9/16"
Probably as tough as anything of it's weight.
Sizes are actually metric 6mm to 14 mm.
For anyone with drilled disc brakes, there is a tiny very effective lock.
Abus 39
You may find special uses for this.
I use one on an iron bar to lock trailer keeper bars.

No I'm not suprised. I am suprised they found the bottle though. I had it hidden..quite well. They really had to dig for it. I was disapointed, hearing how many things were stolen this year.ygmir wrote:It's just a sad commentary that we would have to lock a tent..........

My storage building got hit for a broken air compressor and a dying window unit ac while I was at Burning Man this year. I think there may be something else missing, but I can't place what it would be as of yet.
While not a major loss by any means, it still leaves me angry and feeling violated.

And yet, after looking up the spelling, I still managed to spell ipecac wrong!ygmir wrote:See, Gyre, that's one of the myriad of reasons I admire you.........gyre wrote:Next year hide a bottle with a mild soap solution added.
I hear it makes you wish you were dying.
Or add ipicac.
I could tell you a horrible story about a student teacher in a hot un-air conditioned classroom that had someone throw up and that made someone else throw up, until everyone was gagging and throwing up, including the teacher and they had to send for help, but I won't.

I watched my entire OCS platoon of 56 men puke four quarts of water each in formation once at Quantico after the DI made everybody slam four canteens in four minutes. That's gotta be close to a record. (I actually didn't puke, but it was close and goddamn that was the most urgent and orgasmic piss of my entire life. ...DI got NJPed for the ordeal.)gyre wrote: I could tell you a horrible story about a student teacher in a hot un-air conditioned classroom that had someone throw up and that made someone else throw up, until everyone was gagging and throwing up, including the teacher and they had to send for help, but I won't.
I wish that upon whomever stole the absinthe, jewelry, money, camping supplies, etc. Stealing at Burning Man = Epic Fail.
