Newbie here..

Post by Blue » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:36 pm

Hi everyone! Blue here, coming from the Sonoma County area of California.

I've been lurking around the forums for a while, reading all the material on the BM site, making lists and lists of things to get/do to prepare for my first BM in 2009. I'll be going with a group of older friends (21-25) that have been a few times, and I'm hoping to make my first BM a good one.

< / end normal, boring info. >

< fun stuff >

Here's a bit about me..

15 years old, though I've been mistaken for 18+ quite a few times.

I love fire dancing (poi, in my case), along with glowsticking and glowstringing.

I'm also into listening to/creating electronic music (esp. psytrance, goa trance, UK hardcore, DnB). For creating/mixing, I use FLStudio 7 with various VST's and Deckadance.

I play keyboard, bass, most percussion, and a bit of guitar.

I'll be turning 16 next year on the playa (yess!)

Anyways, any suggestions, questions for me, etc. would be much appreciated. I'm pretty well versed in the playa basics (for supplies, etc.) but any tips on what to do once at BM would be welcome.

Thanks for reading!

Once you use your friends to get through the greeters gate, I would ditch those geezers. What the hell do you want to hang around with those old farts for anyway?
As far as what to do, you can join fire spinners, volunteer for a number of things, take classes in almost anything imaginable or just hang out and have a great time.
If you are going to be 16 when you go, maybe you will meet the love of your life and get married on the playa. Hey, it could happen!

Hsdavis: I'm hoping that was sarcasm? I didn't mean to say they were old, but they're definitely older than I am..
Also, I think I'll pass on the whole marriage deal for, oh, another ten years or so.

Intubater: I'll pass on th prescrips, thanks.

listen to what intubater says...nothing will ruin a burn more than being "stopped up" on the playa..just ask any oxy-head...

it's nice to be regular, you know what i mean?

This is just a welcoming to the eplaya. It's always good to have young blood join the group. As the real old farts die off, we need people like you to take over on the other end. So, with no sarcasm at all---WELCOME! :D

No problem on the no candy.. that's not my cup'o'soup anyways, and I figure it would probably create some accidental moop even if it was.

Part of me wants to join in the fun, and another part of me wants to say things like "LEOs read this board!" "Contributing to the delinquency of a minor." I think I'm going to have to stab one of my selves this evening.

Welcome blue! This last year (2008) was fan-f'ing-tastic! 2009 should be the same. Good to hear ya reading about the survival specs of the desert (if you have never been to a desert before. Once you get your basics down (shelter/food/water etc.) then all you have to hand with is what Mother Nature throws at you. That's the basics. Then, then there is the whole element of being a human being (emotions/mental/physical) in such stated environment for 7 days. Just remember to listen to your core (your gut instincts) and have fun :D ! This is a joke, but, if you really want to take your preparation to the next level, try this simple excersise:

1. Put goggles and respirator on.
2. Place/dump out 10 lb. bag of flour in front of a fan
3. Turn on multiple, high wattage UV lights pointed right at you
4. Turn fan on and sit in the mist (cover necessary furniture/electronics)
5. Turn Walkman on to Darude's "Sandstorm"
6. Get on excersize bike machine and pedal for 20 minutes.

Congratulations :D ! You have just sucessfully completed a 20 minute simulation/mock trial of riding out of a dust storm!!!

P.S.---Stop by COFFEE CAMP for a cup of Joe/Tea if your in the neighborhood  (location TBA)

Hey Blue! Welcome to eplaya and hope to see you next year on the playa! While I won't be among the first to make inappropriate comments to a 15 year old (he he), I will add one practical word of advice. If none of your older friends is your actual parent or legal guardian, make sure you have one of your actual parents or legal guardians write up a little letter authorizing one of your older friends to make important decisions for you in the event of a medical emergency. While this won't help you if there gets to be an issue at the gate (doubtful), it could be very important if something unforeseen should happen. Getting in touch with someone who can authorize treatment for a minor while out on the playa would be next to impossible if you're in a hurry.
Make sure you stop by Destiny Lounge next year and say hi!

Woof!
A plan is what you vary from.

Destiny Lounge 3D will be at Bradbury and 3:15 this year as a part of the 404: Village Not Found group of camps! Come see us!
