Journal quotes from 2001...

Post by TomServo » Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:07 pm

I was going through an old journal, and found these entries. I've noticed there poignancy before, but finally decided to post them. In the first, I was getting ready for Burning Man 2001.

Aug. 25th, 2001

"Ever feel like it's the end of the world? That's how I've been feeling lately. It's weird...almost like being in a daze. Could it be that I'm preparing to be stripped of the real world; like layers of mud being washed off in the rain? I guess that might make sense. The end is near! And I can't fucking wait!"

Here's a quote from the same journal, a couple weeks later..

"One week ago, both towers of the world trade center collapsed. As they fell, the concrete ground itself into a dust; not unlike the shit we walked on, slept in and breathed, in Black Rock City. Like the Man, both towers burned and fell. I only hope, that the love, community and sense of purpose and promise, that we felt at Burning Man, come out to the rest of our country.

Alot of bloodshed will undoubtedly come soon."

Reading my own words, I wish I wasn't soo naive.

I remember the night of the 2001 burn. There was a harvest moon...huge and blood red. As the man burned, the 16 ..or so.. dust devils, that marched east out of the fire...in a straight line, sealed the deal. Something was going to happen.

About a week later, as it turned out. And that dust we saw New York, was not concrete, but drywall. Some of which, may have come from the gypsum mines in Empire. In hindsight, I might have gotten bored with Burning man, If I didn't think there was more to it than just the event.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..
