Ours in particular is 15 feet long.
The idea was presented to me, and I can't actually think of a reason not to, but then again, I've never actually been to the playa. Hoping you guys will know if I should think of a different idea.
The plan is to modify it cheaply but effectively. Cutting a hole in the wall, and putting a window unit AC in it, as well as putting in bunk beds for four people.
Is there anything I need to be aware of?[/url]

God Please, don't make me make myself look like a moron...
I think it is a good idea.
Im not sure what kind of insulation is used (if any) in those types of trailers, so an AC unit of good shade will be needed. The utility of baing able to take your camp in the trailer and then live in the trailer is good. Anything that does double-duty is good for the playa. That door does look cumbersome though.
Other than that it should keep the dust out and stay cool - thats pretty much the main requirement for sleeping area.

I borrowed a friend's enclosed auto trailer (22' as I recall) in 2005 and it was glorious! Had a built-in roof AC, no windows or holes. Insulated with ~1" hard foam w/ silver facing out.
I put a futon couch at the hitch end, with a carpet down the floor. I then put my mutant vehicle in, and packed a bunch of stuff in the remaining spaces (careful to balance the trailor).
When I arrived I lined up the trailer (with opening facing north), pulled out the MV, setup tarps off the top (that covered the entire trailer with spacers under to get them off the roof and provide an air space) for outside shade, unloaded stuff (mostly for our camp common area), and relaxed. When it came time for the afternoon nap, I had a cool DARK quiet space and a futon to sleep on. I rarely used the AC. I slept wonderfully (with earplugs). Did I mention I was in the LSSC at 2:00 and E street?
I highly recommend this as a primary shelter solution. Better than a camp trailer for BM in my opinion (easier to clean and more room to carry big stuff).
Be sure to get the bearings and brakes checked out before your trip.
Good luck, and welcome home!
