DMX controllers
If you're not familiar with outboard DMX controllers, or don't want to spend the money for a "universal" controller, it's actually easier to get a USB-to-DMX adapter, and use supplied software (or write your own) to do all your DMX stuff.
I've heard these are pretty good systems:
http://dmxusb.com/
http://www.pcdmx.de/gb/home.htm
http://www.enttec.com/index.php?main_me ... s&pn=70304
Many of them can be controlled with windows or linux software, and most of them are buffered, so can continue sending the proper DMX signal even if the source has been disconnected.
