Anyone goin the thursday of?

Post by alandia11 » Thu Apr 09, 2009 7:57 pm

Hi I was wondering if anyone was going on the thursday of the event. A friend and I are going to be flying into Reno on that thursday but we both aren't 21 so we can't get a rental car and I was wondering if we could hitch a ride. It would be GREATLY appreciated... My friends a virgin and I've been in 2007 to the Green Man

There area few car rental companies that WILL rent to under 25 drivers. Some of the smaller ones will, but it will require a bit of research on your part. Check Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Alamo etc. There was nearly a constant stream of cars coming back beaten, dented or smashed when rented to under 25. I'm not sure why, but 25 seems to be the magic number for maturity of not wanting to destroy someone elses property.

Are you sure you want to go that late in the week. By the time you get there, you will see people breaking down thier cams to go home. I made the huge mistake my first year of showing up on Wednesday. Now I get early entry to set up camp.

As the date gets closer, check the ride share thread to see who may be able to provide you a ride if the rental doesn't work out.

Yeah for some reason some will rent to under 25 but not under 21 and we're both 20 so we have no chance!

There are lots of websites that can teach you how to hotwire a car and steal it. That may be an option for you! If you choose to do that, I would recommend that you stay withing the speed limit on the way to BRC!

Is it possible to pack up a vehicle and drive to BRC? It's a 4 day drive if you really push it, but you would not only have a car to get there, but all your supplies as well. I made the drive from the east coast last year and it was a blast. Another big plus is not having to deal with all the shit that the airlines are dishing out these days. At 20 years old, it's the perfect time and the perfect way to see America.

Weekend tourists should just stay home. SERIOUSLY.. you tourist types really aren't appreciated that much.

Do yourself a favor and become a real burner.. spend at least 7 days and nights.. even better and more true to the burner spirit spend 10-12 or more while putting in some work to build our community and help clean up afterwards.

I was a tourist type my first burn. My partner was an early arriver and camp planner and setter-upper and went days early. I flew in on Wednesday and everything was setup and waiting for me to enjoy! :)

It was probably a good thing for me to experience my first burn this way. The second year I was on the early arrival list and we went early to setup and stayed late to make sure our camp got a green mark on the moop map.

I don't think all the 'weekend burners' should be automatically lumped in with the tourists and college kids that come out for the rave action. There are a lot of ways to participate, even if you spend only a few days on the playa.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
