Virgin from Orange County

Post by CamJ26 » Thu May 21, 2009 2:55 pm

Hey hey! Hello all... my name is Cameron Lacy and I am a burning man virgin. (I feel like I am admitting a problem at an AA meeting... Ha)
I am studying theatre and dramatic arts at Chapman University and a group of my friends have decided that we want to attend burning man. Being college students.. we make plans such as these all the time and rarely go through with them. However, after doing some research on what burning man really is and what it stands for... I am absolutely going. I just recieved my ticket conformation in the mail and am STOKED to attend. My friends and I have planned quite a bit for this event because we want to do something to give back to burning man so we ensure that we have a memorable experience. We have played with the idea of submitting our own theme camp and setting up some things we can do to share with the community. As I have been thinking about these plans that we have made and are currently revising, I have been thinking more and more about the vast amount of things that are going on in the playa... and that I am going to want to be anywhere BUT my home camp when we are at the event. I am concerned that if we actually set up our camp with our theme and our artwork and small contributions, that no one will even be around to hang out in our camp, nonetheless run the hookah stand we are wanting to start.

I am completely new at this and would love any and all advice that you have to share with me! Also, I would love to meet some people on here so that I can potentially have some virtual friends to meet up with when we get to the event! =D Thanks everyone for reading!

Welcome to the ePlaya. May I suggest you hold off for a year on planning a Theme Camp? We did and am I ever glad. First off, you will experience sensory overload almost immediately, which makes putting together a kick ass theme camp secondary at best. Go around, get the feel, and just soak in the experience. Now had you been with people who had already established a Theme Camp, then that's another thing altogether. But a bunch of BM virgins? Just go, have a great time, and make your Theme Camp for 2010 the best on the playa. Well, second best. Barbie Death Camp will always be the best Theme Camp on the playa.

What? This isn't a meeting? I'm in the wrong place.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

I second the suggestion that you don't try and do a theme camp your first year. If you want to contribute or give something back, you might want to volunteer for something. Check out the volunteer oportunities here: http://www.burningman.com/participate/

Hi Cam!
From one virgin to another. I gave up on trying to plan just about anything after I thought about it.... Planning leads to worry.
So, I said, "F#@K that - I'm going to be on vacation!"

You're a little late to start a theme camp.
If I was you, I'd find a theme camp that made my nose-hairs twitch, then lend my body, mind and soul to it until the hot sun baked my carcass. :)

Awesome. Thanks so much for your advice! I think we are going to tame our plans down a little bit and just get as involed as we can n the playa! =D

good decision Cameron Lacy. you'll find that you will have an infinite amount of things to do there. there are not enough hours in the day (or night)!
