Shade structure help?

Post by jcliff » Mon Jun 29, 2009 2:49 pm

Hey....sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, but I couldn't find quite what I needed. This year I'm going to try a 2-3 person cheap tent with a folded up blanket secured with binder clips over the mesh ceiling, then a heavy fabric quilt over the tent (again secured to the poles with binder clips, then the rain fly over the top. I've read that this is pretty good system for keeping out dust (more of a priority for me after last year!)
Any suggestions for making a shade cover out of shade cloth? I don't know what kind of poles to get or how to secure the shade cloth to the poles. I'll have with me 6, 2' sections of rebar with bent tops.

Appreciate the brainstorm!

The cheap tents have a hard enough time supporting their own weight let alone several blankets and a heavy quilt.

You probably need to rethink your strategy. If all it takes is a few binder clips and some shade cloth you'd think folks would not bother with all this complicated shelter construction.

Do some more reading and look at the many good designs for Playa shade.
