Blue Bird's Wings clipped
When I first came to e-playa and registered to post, I pulled the first thing that came to mind. I chose to name myself after the parakeet as a reminder that there are many, many precious things that cannot come to the playa--parakeets among them.
Yesterday, my namesake, Priscilla the Parakeet, died.
I don't want to post under this name anymore. I don't know if that's forever or just for the time being. So I will ask for another identity. I'm telling you now, upfront, so that there will be no question of sockiness.
That is all for now.

I feel for your loss, my friend. I have had many animal companions over the years, and as is the course, they tend to leave us before we leave them. And every time I loose one of my companions, I say that I’ll never take in another... but that’s just a lie told to myself. The love and friendship that an animal can give (be it dog, cat, bird, or otherwise) is always worth the pain of them moving onto the next place. Nobody will ever convince me that animals don’t have a soul or spirit... I’ve worked with the Humane Society too long to think otherwise. So take comfort, little BlueBirdPoof... your pal may no longer be with you in flesh and bone... but the next time a leaf blows with the wind in a curious way, it just may be someone telling you hello.
I have a wonderful story about pets and loss that I would be happy to share it with you, but only if you wish. I know sometimes, you just want to sit and listen to the quite at times like this. Be at peace...

Thank you very much
We buried Priscilla in the back yard, wrapped in a blue cloth with a spray of millet, her favorite bell, and a strand of my hair and a hair from his mustache. She'll have something to eat, something to play with and something to preen in the afterlife. I hope she's already found my little sister and his husband and is sitting on one of thier shoulders, bossing him or her around and being that bundle of lively feathers that we love so much.
Last year I wrote in the base of the man with a sharpie
"God can also be found in a little blue parakeet named Priscilla." I never told S. until last night--now he wants it as her epitaph. We can expect a few blue feathers to go up as the man burns this year.
Thank you every one for your kindness.

This is a little something my friend Valerie wrote after loosing her doggie. Please read only if you feel ready for a really good cry. I'm posting it because I think it speaks to everyone's experience in loosing an animal friend.
