Where to camp

Post by SHARPER » Thu Mar 04, 2004 12:40 pm

Having never been to BM before I am at a loss as to how we know where to camp. I have been very active with my local groups and many have given info about some camps they would recccommend we join. The info I can't seem to find is how much SPACE can I claim for our setup - not as a theme camp but as an individual. We are coming in our motor home which measures 12' by 22' additionally we will have a shade/shelter structure of 20' x 20'. What this means is that we are looking for a space just for us of 32' by 22 '.
I printed out a copy of 2003 map of Black Rock City but the rectangles don't tell me if they are utilized for theme camps or if they are the areas designated for anyone to camp in.
Soooo, if you are familiar with the 2003 map, can you tell me where it would be ok for us to set up our camp? Since we will probably be arriving shortly after midnight, Sunday night - I'd like to be able to say that I know where I need to go?
Do not think of me as gone, I am with you still in each new dawn.

I believe that the places that are reserved for theme camps will be clearly marked with some sort of tape or something. But in general, if you camp in the streets further back from the Esplanade, you will find open camping. Most of the theme camps arrive early and make themselves pretty obvious pretty quickly. Least that was my experience last year.

if you plan on joining an established camp, you will need to talk to the camp organizers about your space requirements. They should also be able to tell you where they have been mapped if they are registered, or where they are shooting for if they are not.

if you are not joining another group then you simply drive in and hunt for a spot you like that is out of the registered camp are (which will be somewhat clearly marked),

I am familiar with the '03 map and to my recollection it had marked in darker grey where the pre-assigned stuff was.
