Wind
From what direction are the prevailing Playa winds? This is only my second burn, and my first in-charge of shade-struture erection.
See you on the Playa

usually, the prevailing winds aren't a real problem.......
the "foogin dust storm hurricane" winds are what will give you grief.
and, as often as not they are circular.......
But, when I've notice a sustained direction, they seem to come from the south and east.
in my experience, whatever way I set my stuff to take advantage of wind direction, ends up being the wrong way.......

Friends,
Thanks for the feedback. And agreed on the circular, directionless gusts during a storm (advice on strapping my SHIT duly noted!). My reason for asking is to leverage the breezes that, during the periods between wind storms, flow above the surface of the Playa and vent our tarp system to allow enterance.
So I read some common ground on the W/SW and Phil, you mentioned Gerlach as a benchmark for the direction of said winds, it lies due west of Playa, yes? (we'll be stting up in the dark by compass).
Caveat: I realize all the planning and design in the world can be renderd moot on the Playa, but we lay-out with best practices in mind and then roll with whatever the Man delivers in the moment.
Again, Thans for your advice.

No, not due west. Look at this satellite image on Google maps:So I read some common ground on the W/SW and Phil, you mentioned Gerlach as a benchmark for the direction of said winds, it lies due west of Playa, yes? (we'll be stting up in the dark by compass).

North is up in this map/satellite image. Gerlach is determinate, but based on that map, the location of BRC is indeterminate. You should be able to get a good enough fix on how many degrees off North Gerlach is.
Note the mountains - that's why the predominate wind direction is the way it is: they're a funnel.
Good luck and have fun.
