Left the burn early =(

Well I planned to goto the burn from monday to monday but it didn't work out that way.

I left monday morning at 5am and flew into reno.met up with some local people hauling my tent and managed to setup at 5:00 and Jurassic.was having a great time but tuesday started getting real depressed because I couldnt talk to my wife who couldnt go with me.

It was my first time going and the first time me and the wife ever spent more than a day apart.Brning man was alot of fun and so srreal but I couldnt be without her...even surrounded by so many cool friendly people....so i left on wednesday.sad i didn't make the whole burn but glad to be back with my wife.

I was fully physically and mentally prepared for the desert as I suffered worse conditions in the military but I wasnt emotionally prepared to leave my wife yet.

I'm gonna shoot for the 2011 burn and rent an RV instead of tent and either bring her or a very close group of friends.

Great you experienced what you experienced: desert, BM, separation, etc

Makes me wonder how old you are: young/middle/old ??

I'd guess middle/older and first marriage?

For next time...this year there was some AT&T and Verizon cell coverage. ANd at center camp, at least, some e-mail access to send a greeting home.

It'll be even MORE fun with your wife & super when you both share watching a burn together!

I'm 30 and this is my second marraige...my first wife I would volunteer for deployments in the service just to get away from her. This one I hate being away from. It really was a great experience, I just missed my Love too much. She said she'd go with me in 2011 if we rented an RV like alot of people I saw did.

I had verizon and no cell service at all...saw a ton of people with laptops and iphones who got service....Who knew i'd miss her so much LOL

but being there for only 3 days can I still consider myself a burner =\

you tasted the dust ... saw the people, rode the playa ... yes you are a burner, i also left early, Saturday Morning of the burn, my friend got a sudden phone connection and call about a family emergency, so we left, in my RV ... i watched burn on the live web cam, after a 10 hour trip home what a trip,

and yes, next time the RV will make it work for your beloved wife

yeah I watched from 1230am-245am my time...Made me a little sad but I least I could still watch the burn.

going to go to a regional burn next year thats only a 5 or so hour drive from my home .....I think It'll be easier on me and the wife since if need be we can at least call each other and say goodnight and such.

I had to leave early as well, cause my virgin that I brought with me was having breathing issues, she slept for a day and half straight, so even though we only had a few hours till the man burn, I thought it best to get her off the playa, so I did, and we hit Reno within 2.5hrs, got a room at the casino. We talked about heading back to catch the temple since we both left some issues out there, but made the drive back into NorCal, and caught the temple online... We turned off all the lights, and put the comp way on the other side of the room, and watched the temple burn....
She has no desire to go back next year...but at the same time she is already missing it..she also said, she doesn't think she is a burner cause the dust kicked her ass....

tell your dear virgin that the type of face mask
( check out www.playalungs ) makes a big difference

amazon also has a big selection, the key is a mask that is particle proofed ...

I also have lung issues, and the right mask and googles makes all the difference,

as does a RV to hang in during the afternoon white outs

...... anything is possible

Me too. My first burn and I got an absesed tooth two days before leaving. The antibiotics my dentist gave me weren't strong enough and we ended up there from monday untill I couldn't take it anymore on Wed. It's taken most of the week to gain some perspective on the trip. Things that would have been meer annoyances had I been well, were sheer torture under the circumstances (campmates sudenly deciding we were a 24 hour dance music camp). In the last 5 days I've gone from "never again" to "if I start now I'll have an awsome 30 ft piece to bring next year!".

My girlfriend and I also had to leave early because of work obligations. We got there on Monday evening and left early Saturday morning. This was my first burn (her second) and I definitely wouldn't consider myself a virgin, even if the playa kicked your ass.

Every year is a learning experience, whether you learn that you love your wife too much to be without her for more than 24 hours, or you learn that you need a more sensitive dust mask for next year's burn.

If everything went smoothly, well where would be the fun in that?

It is O.K. to leave Burning Man early. I always leave Sat. morning. For me a big fire is not worth a 5 hour wait w/ no ac to get off the desert.
This year I even left a day early because our dog is not doing well. I still put in 6 days & had PLENTY of party. & yes my ass was once again kicked.
