Thank You from all of us!!!

Post by mykidsdaddy » Sun Sep 13, 2009 4:45 pm

I want to thank every one of you! Many stopped in the store, many probably drove on by, doesn't matter...we were open and we were busier than you could imagine(if you hadn't seen it before)! ALL of the burners we dealt with were exceptionally nice people! Many, many actually THANKED US!!!! Thanked us for being there for them! We owe you people the thanks!
I worked the gas station the weekend of the burn. LONG days, from 6:00AM til 2:00AM and then did it again...and again! Outstanding Labor Day Weekend!!! It will be one that won't be forgotten anytime soon!

I missed meeting several of you who stopped in and asked for me! :( I was at my REAL job...I really wish I had been here! No matter, there will be another burn! 2010 I will be on vacation from the plant and will be able to devote more energy to the demands of this store and the people who shop here! This year we stumbled through...we managed but it was extremely taxing! Next year, we will all know with first hand knowlege, what to expect.
On another forum I visit...I made a comment on how nice it was going to bed yesterday and waking up today. Far better than going to bed in the wee hours and draggin' yourself out again in 2 or 3 hours!

I believe I can relate to your "De-compression"! LOL!!!

And NO...I didn't make it out to the playa :( :(
My wife had said earlier in the week or so before the cut-off date to get our locals pass, that the workload just wouldn't allow for us to sneak out there. Then on the last day...she decided to say c'mon lets go get as pass. It was on my lunch hour and we jumped in the truck and headed for Gerlach...My daughter says. "I can't believe the ticket office is at the main entrance!" I said "WHAT???" "Turn around...I have to be back to work in 25 min" I thought the passes were in gerlach at the BM offices! Oh well!
I experienced BM from here! I am sure the actual thing was incredible. We will have the help we need next year for sure and I will get to go!

Long post but it was a long event!

The store looked great and it was busy as all hell. The staff was frazzled from the business, but they all seemed happy that things were going so well. I met your wife and other members of your family, but they said you were screwing off somewhere. Not sure what they meant by that!

I stopped on the way out to say hello, but you were working the pumps and I could not get within 50 feet of them.

I bought stuff both going in and going out, so I hope my support helped push you guys over the top. Now you have an idea of what's needed and what to expect next year.

Congratulations to you and the entire family and staff on all the amazing success of the store.

Stopped by in and out.
Picked up a 2009-2010 Calendar.
You still had a palette of PBR.

Just out of curiousity, what surprised you that didn't sell?

We have 3 cases of Captain Morgan Rum! We will probably still have it next year! LOL!!! And we have a shitload of Red Bull left over.
I didn't buy either, but they didn't sell very well.
Something that I did buy and did not sell very well were the T-shirts that had The Empire Store screened on them. The other Ts sold out. I didn't have any input on the artwork for the shirts. I was offered the shirts to sell and I took them. The guy that screened them added the Empire Store spot on the baca as an afterthought. I saw some of the people wearing previous years designs and some of them were really cool! I will have cool shirts next year!

7AM Tues morning I was working in the white powder you were all playing in!
Thas OK...Next time!
And I hear ya re: mechanical problems! We had 3 different vehicles that had major failures right here in the driveway. I fixed 2 of them and the other took two of us looking at it to figure out. Both were electrical failures. You shoulda seen the look on their faces when I told them no charge!!! In the spirit of the event it was gifted!!! Their mouths dropped!

I was also told that the previous mgmt CHARGED people to use the Porta Potties!!! I was asked "How much???" by way too many people for this not to be true! Dispicable (sp?) down right fucked up!!!

I was also offered tittie flash for gas discounts "just like last year"!

I freaked out when I saw a gas cap on the counter in the gas station! LOL!!! I told my son to not even think about selling it to ANYONE!!! If they need a cap...give it to them!!! LOL!!!

I stopped in late Friday afternoon. I don't think I've ever seen as much PBR in one place ever. Had to wait in line as I paid with a damn debit card and the receipt printers don't like the paper spools...the lady had to pull off a mile of paper to get it to fit the printer while the line groaned about it)...the staff looked frazzled to the nth degree but were still friendly. Even with all the traffic the store was still much cleaner than I remember it. There was no crushed ice left, only blocks and the prices on some things were high but I had to remind myself that I was in Empire, NV, not Winnemucca so quit bitchin. I liked the new signs, looked at the t-shirts but I'm not small so there was none that would fit. And seeing the TV on Fox News in the back corner was a jarring reality check that I tried to tune out. But otherwise, it was worth the time to stop. Congrats again on bringing the store back to life and I can't wait to see all the improvements you'll have done by next year's burn!

MKD

Enjoying the thread here, sorry I am such a pain about the "no commerce thing" in here. I do hope you do get a chance to get out on the playa with us some day.

Stopped in the other morning, looks like you all survived it well.

Good job on your first year.

After a 3+ hour exodus late Monday, I stopped by to streach my legs and to see how the inside of the store looked. I got some icecream from the box near the door and walked around. It looked like they cleaned you out pretty good by Monday night. I saw there was plenty of PBR left. I saw the owner sitting at his desk and he looked tuckered out. It must have been quite a week for all of you guys. Thank you all for helping us out this year...see you next year.

Ditto to many other posts I stopped by on my way out (Tuesday) and checked the store out. :)

I thought it looked great although mostly cleaned out (other than the huge pile of PBR, which made me ROFL). We mentioned to the woman at the counter not to worry, there would be plenty of DPW out there for a while and the PBR would probably get sold. :D :D

I was disappointed not to see any BM 2009 posters this year. Every other year I stopped there I saw them. Just a note. I know other people were going to stop and get a poster as well and were a bit bummed. No biggie, but food for thought for next year. :)

MKD -

I stopped by on my way in Monday morning and bought some stuff, chatted with folks and asked after you. Sounds like you were at work.

Didn't have time on the way out but will definitely make a point to stop in next year.

Glad to see that you guys are bouncing back from all the drama and that y'all were so stocked. Am happy to support the store.

I am not wanting to violate the rules here and have people pissed off because I am selling something. I haven't done it before and I don't want to start now. You may click on my www at the bottom of my post and that will take you to the stores site. "Contact Us" takes you to me!

Thank you,

Andy

Think I had a chat with you after 4th of Juplaya, and the shelves were pretty empty. Thanx again for the hospitality. And the Empire store is a huge part of our survival. Like I said...don't know how you put up with us, but Thank You!

We stopped in Friday afternoon on our way in and bought the "just in case" carton of smokes and some other odds and ends. Store was rockin and rollin and full of dusty DPW folks when we were there.

I didn't see the grill/sandwich counter until we were headed for th echeck out line and she looked pretty busy. Next year... :D

I probably would have ask of a pic of me with them.

:D

Especially if I had to stay at the store instead of going out of the playa.

:D

You should consider closing up Saturday afternoon and coming out next year.

A plan is what you vary from.
