My first time and going alone!

I'm excited and nervous at the same time, and looking forward to whatever Burning Man brings me.

One question is: I plan on sleeping in my truck (SUV) ( I figure it's a bit warmer, good shelter, and it's way large enough for me and my stuff).
Any advice against such a thing?

2nd question which probably can't be answered:
How can I be guaranteed to find my friends' camp in such a huge place??

No reason you can't sleep in your SUV, provided that you make it comfy enough. Whatever you do you'll have to tolerate for a week. Pay attention to reflective sun shade. It will still be hot as hell during the day, so exterior shade is useful.

You can't be guaranteed to find your friends, but you can take steps to make it real likely. First party in should register at Playa Info (Center Camp) ASAP and give the real address. You should have some idea of what area you'll be in (see previous years maps) if at all possible. Arrange to have some large and obvious sign marking your place. And you might have a scheduled meeting (like Tuesday, 5 pm, coffee bar in Center Camp) as a backup. Try to have plans A-Z (or at least through K).

WELCOME!
I camp in the back of my 95 Ford 1/2 ton, 8ft bed with a shell.
I use an air matress and sleeping bag and its good enough for what I need there. An air matress is a debatable subject
Transports my provisons and turns into sleeping quarters.
One negative is if there happens to be a whiteout, I take shelter in the cab and it gets dangerously hot.
I have started the engine at times to run the AC but that just sucks more dust in.

Look up monkey hut and consider making one that you can pull the SUV under it. If you make it the right length you can have some extra length to have a little shade area where you can hang out. Covering a vehicle with some sort of shade is a common practice to keep it cooler.

If you want to make sure you find your friends, have both parties (you and them) with identical (I prefer Motorola) walkie-talkie/2-way radios on the same frequency. And use something off the wall, not 420 or 1. Then agree to monitor said radio at a given time (every three hours starting at noon, for example) until you connect.

Otherwise you'll almost certainly be S.O.L.

im a first timer too. ive heard all of these tings about shade recently. monkey hut is a great way to go. air mattress works wonders too, as long as its not vinyl on the sleep side, that'll get shweaty.
