Another First Time Burner.

Post by kingtom » Tue May 04, 2010 10:44 am

Yes, It’s true , this will be my first time through the gate to Burning Man and I’m excited. I’ll probably be overly prepared , but getting ready is part of the fun for me. I’m driving from Arkansas and I’m looking forward to that also.

Is this your first burn, or your first Burning Man?

Second attempt.

Post by kingtom » Tue May 04, 2010 7:36 pm

This is my second try.The first was four years ago I had my ticket, spent a year building a cool school bus into a rv. Solar plus a generator,100 gal. water. It was cool.I can build the interior of a boat so doing the inside of a buss was easy. I took it to the national Rainbow gathering in Colorado and all over the Western US.Now I was ready for Burning man. When I bought my ticket I noticed a rule stating "dogs were prohibited" no problem I didn't have a "dog" I had a cat and One Gold fish.I e-mailed the people at Burning Man and asked them about my cat explaining I lived in my buss and I had a cat and that she never gets out of the bus. No reply. I sent another e-mail still no reply. So I headed for Nevada from Oregon spent several days camped at Pyramid lake and talking to other people headed to Burning Man. One just happened to mention that "no pets" were allowed and I would be turned away at the gate.So I drove to Gerlach To find out if this was true, they sent me to the gate I finely found a person with some authority. His answer was " This is a human only event, on exceptions" I was crushed.I had spent thousands of dollars getting ready. I drove back to Gerlach sold my ticket and headed away It was hard seeing all those cars , vans and R/V heading to Burning Man and I was heading away.So this is my second attempt " Pet free".

I’m really sorry, I mean really... that you had to wait until the gate to get a definite reply, kingtom. I can only imagine the bummer of a feeling you had driving away after that, especially after trying to get an answer.

But I’m really glad you’re not holding a grudge and are giving it a second try. I think with such an attitude, you’ll find it to be a very rewarding place. I will sew up a couple of catnip toys and bring them for your feline friend so that you may take them back as a peace offering for having to leave him or her out of the fun for a week. Keep an eye out for our Mutant Vehicle, The Contraption. I'll keep them tucked away onboard.

Welcome!

No cats and absolutely no gold fish!

Post by kingtom » Tue May 04, 2010 9:40 pm

Thanks! I ended buying some land in Arkansas right in the hart of the Qzarks, selling the bus and building a small house , an art project in it's self. The cat is fine staying at home.

Why didn't you just stuff your stupid cat in the glove box or something? They would never have checked there.

I didn't think of that.

Post by kingtom » Wed May 05, 2010 10:02 am

Actually your close , that's where I keep my friend when she Isn't blown up, besides that my cat was driving. That reminds me my new R/V doesn't have a glove box. What to do?

Leave your friend blown up in the passenger seat, then you can use any car pool lanes along the way. And you're right, cats do make good designated drivers, as they typically stick to very weak white Russians.
Good luck this year!
Hope to see you on the playa.

Okay

Post by kingtom » Wed May 05, 2010 6:10 pm

Okay! Just look for an old guy with a motor home with a Arkansas plate on the back.I'm going to try and get a spot with 30 AMP close to the swimming area , but not to close you know all the loud laughing and frolicking during nap time might hinder my sleep.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

JK

(I would have tried sneaking the cat in. Wouldn't have been a problem if it never got out of the bus--unless it cooked in there from the heat. DPW has dogs on the playa, which I think is not such a good thing for the health of the dogs either; but I do understand that it would be difficult for them to spend the time necessary on the playa building the event if they didn't bring the dogs.)

If unjon ever gets his butt back on here, the two of you could talk about sitting in the shade and yelling at kids to get off your dusty lawn!

I know of a cat that went.
Climbed in the neighbor's shiny new box truck and woke up at burning man.
I don't think the cat saw the humour of it, at all.

Hmm Take a nap and wake up at Burning Man, sounds like a dream come true for most of us :).

2006? they were giving away kittens that the cat had put in the truck.

Could have been.
I was only told of a single kitty though.
Maybe a later discovery, or maybe it happens all the time?

Yep, have several cat watchers, someone to mow the lawn twice and pick anything left in the garden. That should do it.

Good to hear giving it a second shot :D ! I would have acted totally astounded if someone pressed on the discovery of the cat "Cat?! What ca..what!..how the HELL did that get in the R.V.??" or could have told them that it was a service animal to help you locate things in the dark :) Rock on...
