Kicking Off the Season w/ CANNED HAIRSPRAY

Post by kitten_sf » Wed May 05, 2010 6:44 am

"Ma, it's changing out there! You'll like it!
People who are different, their time is coming!"

-- Tracy Turnblat, Dancefloor Activist

"Cities have the capability of providing something for everybody,
only because, and only when, they are created by everybody."

-- Metropolis: Burning Man 2010

Duplicity Presents....
"Canned Hairspray"
A tribute to the Baltimore Metropolis + John Waters
benefiting
Comfort &Joy's Scholarship Fund,
because as Prudy Pingleton says,
"Having nothing builds character!"

Don’tcha let nobody try to steal your fun,
’Cause a little touch of lipstick never hurt no one
The future’s got a million roads for you to choose,
But you’ll walk a little taller in some high heel shoes
'Cause it's time for a star
Who looks just like you!

"Great cities are organic, spontaneous, heterogeneous, and untidy. They are, like Burning Man, magnetic hubs of social interaction... They generate belonging on a civic scale. This is the ecumenical achievement of all great cities: They transcend the narrow bounds of tribe and caste, allowing us to glimpse the deep humanity in others."
--- Metropolis: Burning Man 2010 Art Theme (the Life of Cities)

"Oh, my God how times have changed,
these girls must be blind, or completely deranged!"

Hmmmmm

Do we have an area for canned spam?

I can't remember if we have a section for fundrausers and such. Is this Regional Events type of stuff?

Don' git me wrong, I love to hang at C&J, but that was so two years ago ...

Hey I agree it's hard to place content like this

Yes this post in the Theme Camps folder is about how a Theme Camp is interpreting this year's Burning Man theme... relating it back to popular movies about Self empowerment in an urban context ... which seems very on-topic & spam-free to me... hell I would love it if every camp would grab a bullhorn & tell us all how their community is applying Metropolis-esque ideas to their fundraising scenes.... work your theme girls!!

Also yes C&J is very two years ago... wait actually we're 9 years ago... which means OMG next year is ten! Silly faggots.... something must be very wrong here...

i'd say you're both right.

although, fresh ideas would be a bit more enticing. a remake of a remake of a movie from the 1990s isn't exactly a fresh take on 'the city' - but still, you can't go wrong with john waters.

Fundraisers are events. They go in Regionals and Events.
