ISO Advice for Almost Virgins
I group of us are making the trip this year. We'll have an RV. We are all in our 40's. I went in 2008 and the others are virgins. I want to help people fix their bikes. I'm a good mechanic and will bring out my tools and parts. Any idea's on where to camp and how to get the word out about the bike services would be very helpful.

Cool idea! I know that there are a few camps that make this gift each year but I have a question to you.. How prepared are you for the onslaught? I mean.. how many bikes would you be able (and willing) to fix in an afternoon? If you are willing to commit a specific time frame you could try organizing a bike repair workshop. You'll need someplace to hold it and you can ask people who know their tools to come help fix things. Power in numbers.bikereanimator wrote:I group of us are making the trip this year. Might help to go by the Playa Info desk near Center Camp and let the folks behind the desk know what you're offering and where you can be found.
Consider going mobile. Ride your own bike up and down the Esplanade with a sign advertising your skills. I don't do this myself, but I carry a decent selection of quick fix tools and have on many occasions done quick repairs right on the spot for folks whose steeds have broken down and I just happened to come along.

Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
