another virgin burner....

Post by oncelostlenore » Mon Jul 12, 2010 3:05 pm

hello all,

This will be my first year, but I am going with a small camp of slightly more experienced people. This is an incredibly siginificant event for me and my partner, as I have been battling with a rather serious auto-immune condition which has held me back a lot lately. My partner wanted nothing more than to be able to share this amazing experience with me. and until recently it did not look like a possibilty. But here we are.

Any tips or advice would be appreciated...I am incredibly stoked and thankful. I feel like being able to go is a victory in someway.

Advice on being other than healthy on playa. (I used to have this all down, but I'm rusty.)
1--I take it that you ahve talked this over with your doctor and take advice to heart.
2--Make sure any special needs are covered. (Heat, dust, whatever.)
3--Have an escape plan. If you need to get off the playa NOW! what are you gonna do? go home? hotel in Reno? Lake Tahoe? Have some cash ready.
3b--Who's going to pack up and transport your stuff if you've had to flee in a hurry?
4--Have a release signed for your partner, and anyone else you trust who you think you might need it, so they can discuss medical issues with REMSA on playa or the hospital in Reno. If needed include phone numbers to family members.

I'm sure there's more, but that's a good basic bunch of things to think through.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome OnceLost. My friend has MS. Sometimes she goes; sometimes she doesn't because of the MS. Crypto's advise is most excellent.

I have had to pack up a person's things after he left in a hurry, and that's probably good advise for anyone camping with others.
