we're doing an art installation (Cactopolis, listed) and need to drill 1 inch holes into the playa that are 24 inches deep. anyone have any time-tested suggestions?

1" corkscrew style drill bit on a really good drill. Have you checked out the guides and maybe talked to someone in Artery about this?

yup, an auger type bit......make sure and pull it out once in a while while drilling..or, it'll auger in and get stuck......

or, that German crew out there, they're supposed to be boring ( or maybe it's done already?) a horizontal hole all the way around the perimeter.
they may have a technique.
