Drive safe to Burning Man

Post by ron5657 » Sun Aug 29, 2010 12:53 am

I know everyone wants to get to the playa as soon as possible but keep safety in mind. It doesn't matter if you drive fast or slow, you WILL have to wait in line. It doesn't make sense to drive fast and endanger yourself and others only to have to wait in line at the gate. Keep in mind that the authorities are well aware of the event and what comes with it. Bottom line...be patient and be safe! I have seen alot of accidents on the way to the playa that could have been avoided if everyone obeys the speed limit and be patient. I shall see you at Home!

QFT.
Let's all take it slow. BRC isn't going anywhere, for a week at least, and it's painful to see accidents every year. With the wet roads, take it easy.

From a friend in Gerlach:

Welcome to Burning Man...uh Burning truck? 3:00 AM Thursday morning we are dispatched to a vehicle fire 4 miles north of Gerlach. We arrive to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Fortunately there were no injuries, and it was a calm night so the adjoining field of dry grass didn't catch. Otherwise we would still be out there fighting it. Everyone please drive safely on your way to the Playa!
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

We saw a rollover coming out on Monday. I think we've seen one every year. Involved a bus with a flat tire and a silver SUV-ish vehicle which had rolled. The rear bumper was torn half off, I don't know why. Passing? Cut in too fast? I saw the tow truck guy trying to pick up the bikes which had flown off. The gal with the cops looked shaken but okay, our friends who passed the same wreck earlier say they saw the male being readied for ambulance transport. Hope he's alright.

Saw plenty of stupid passing.

Note to self: bump this thread early and often next year.

I've seen lots of people driving recklessly while returning on monday.

I always leave some space between my car and the one in front me so that if someone decide to pass me, he can always pull back in front of me.

However if 5-6 dumbasses decide to start passing together, they will NOT be able to pull back... I had to ram on the brakes at least 4 times because people were driving just like if we were on a one-way road! And suddenly, a big truck appears on the other lane!

Seriously, what people are thinking? We were all tired, we were driving at like 55mph instead of 70mph, no big deal, the road was crowded anyway, it's stupid to risk an accident to pass 3 vehicles, just to be stuck 500' later at the same speed...

Next year I'll be trying to leave earlier or later, not because I don't want to wait in line at the gate, but because I don't want to risk an accident because of all these drivers.

Hey AntiM, when you remember to bump this next year could you remind people to drive safe on gate road? Just because your on playa doesn't mean you have to forget how to drive safely. Or follow instructions for that matter.
I have a little bit of Savannah with me. Shhh...
