Kite Buggies at Burning Man

Post by Cheyenne » Sun Oct 03, 2010 7:11 am

Hello Again,

I was toying with the Idea of bringing a Kite Buggy and Power kite to BM by having them shipped over..

What are the usual procedures with something that is not neccessarily mechanised, but wind powered? Would it have to be registered? Or are they generally not allowed due to safety concerns? Unless I'm blind, I didn't see any info pertaining to kite buggies on the official blurb

Cheers

:)

Ps - Sorry - I've just seen a thread about the Black Rock City Yacht Club...

I'll haul myself over to them for a possible mooch around the play on wind power! - Maybe I could just bring the kite and leave the buggy at home consideringI've just seen how much it would cost to get the damn thing to San Francisco

There are restrictions, which are listed under DMV.
Vehicles Not Allowed to Enter Black Rock City

...

Wind-Powered Vehicles NOT Allowed in Black Rock City
These vehicles may be brought to the Black Rock Airport and may be stored and operated there. These vehicles include:

Vehicles with a fixed mast
Vehicles in which the operator is sitting or reclining
Three-wheeled "land yachts"
Kite sailing vehicles (powered by a high-flying kite rather than attached to a mast)

cheers,

Thanks for that - I must have been a bit vacant when skimming over that one..

I pretty much thought that powerkites and buggies couldn't be used inside the city - that would be a rediculous idea..

I take a smaller powerkite to the beach at Blackpool South Shore and even then I have to warn people NOT to walk under the lines or the kite itself as it swoops past at 60 MPH!!!

I tried to tell an Eastern European girl pushing a pram on St Annes beach that it was dangerous to walk under a powerkite - but she didn't have a clue what I was talkng about!!
