Anyone who has a DJ setup @ BRC, there is a known vandal. .
. . and his name is "DJ Swamp".
A few weeks ago, he played at a party that my friends threw. After his set, he purposely poured an entire beer on the mixer & broke it. They had to scramble to find another one so that their main headliner (DJ Shortee) could play. This was probably the biggest douche move I can think of, so I figured he must have been out of his mind or something.
He refused to pay for the damaged equipment, but as it turns out.... this is something he does ALL THE TIME.
In fact, he even brags about it in an DJ Times Magazine interview: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak- ... 1362_n.jpg
This would still be kind of a douchey move if it was HIS equipment he was constantly breaking, but it isn't. And he doesn't pay for the stuff he breaks.
Sadly, it appears that he now attends Burning Man. I think it would be a shame of he ruined someones equipment there.
I wanted to do my part and alert the community about this man. Again, this isn't gossip or anything else; it's just what he does. I think perhaps he thinks it's a "rock star" move or something, but I think he's just a dick.
Anyway, if you see his name on a lineup somewhere, please alert the owner of the gear that this nonsense may happen.
Thanks.

standards, people.
vandals are vandals regardless of what you think of the statues.
First of all, mixers & CD players aren't only for "techno" music.
Second, Burning Man is a RAVE more than anything else these days. I wish it wasn't, and I know that it's considered high fashion to hate on electronic music, but it is what it is. If you really hate electronic music that much that you'd cheer-on the destruction of peoples rather expensive equipment... why the hell do you attend the world's biggest (and probably most expensive) rave?
Anyway, this is DJ Shortee -

She's pretty damn good, IMO.

yeah, thats her, already on it.
however i disagree wholeheartedly with your statement

you are so fucking wrong, and this coming from a person who loves to shake his booty and is deeply involved with the scene.
Burning Man is NOT A RAVE....if you think it is, well, hate to say it, but
YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG
if thats all you think it is, i pity you, you need to be gifted a clue.

It's a huge party in the desert, with blasting electronic music & lights.
Like it or not, it's a rave more than anything else.
Yes, I know that it's also so much more...
But if someone really HATES "raves" that much, then perhaps Burning Man has evolved (devolved?) into something that they really should move on from.
I wish I could have been there 15+ years ago before the electronic music became the MAIN MUSIC of the playa, but I missed out on that.
It's obviously much more than a "rave", but to say that it isn't a "rave" really isn't true.

BZZZZZZZZT.
wrong again.....your lucky this isn't stanley milgram's experiment, we'd be up to 220 v by now.
i was there in 96' and onward and for you to classify the event as a rave without ever having been there and done that is beyond comprehension.
i suppose next year is going to suck, as well?

Nope. I love Burning Man. It's in my top 3 festivals that I attend every summer.
By the way, I thought you "plonked" me? Why are you still talking to me then?
I think you're creepy, have anger issues, and just generally wish you'd stop talking to me.
Peace!
(or in your case, War!)

what a maroon.
I know, right?
I'm supposed to put Burning Man on this huge pedestal like everyone else, right?
And then act like I'm some higher being because I attend a party in the desert?
Act all "spiritual" because I'm a "Burner"?
Guess what? Burning Man is not the be-all and end-all of all things.
It's amazing. There's nothing else on the planet that even comes close to it. This much is true. But there's far better energy at other festivals, such as All Good & SummerCamp, to name my other 2 favorites.
Sorry if that's not good enough for ya.
Should I pretend to have a cult-like affinity to Burning Man? Will that make you happy?
By the way, what made you decide not to "plonk" me?

Life is so peaceful with a well tended plonk button. Threads become almost zen once you've weeded out the trolls. Though I still won't go back to those political threads.

It's mainly a rave? ah ... no.
I mainly go to ride my trike around, and I like sleeping in a tent, and making coffee on a butane stove in the morning. oh and yeah, that physical material creation manipulation stuff.

I mainly go for the playa dust. That's the reason we're all addicted To BRC, and that's the stuff that's evolving our DNA so we can live on the next planet they bring us to before the meteor hits.
Why do you think it's always extra windy the night of the burn? That's when they add the really good stuff!
