Question
First time, from Detroit to celebrate my 40th bday...have a question--I saw someone comment about bringing a bike "you don't mind sacrificing," why is that? Is there some reason to believe if I bring a bicycle it will not return? (other than the obvious, if I do not keep track of it?)

Welcome MHT. I think they were referring to two things. Bike can get pretty beat up from the playa dust getting into every crevice on the bike. You wouldn't want to bring your $1000 wiz-bang mountain bike to this event. The other part is that, if bikes are not secured, people tend to borrow them out of laziness. Some do get stolen, but I think most are just taken.
If you bring a cheap bike, make it look very distinctive somehow, with lights or decoration and make sure to keep it locked all the time you are not using it, you should not have a problem. And, if it's a cheap bike, you won't be too mad if it gets lost or damaged.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
JK
I have a pretty good bike and I've taken it for three years now. Just make sure you lock it, don't shift gears too often or at all, and immediately take it to your bike shop for a complete cleaning and service when you get back.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
