No pun intended on this one (sorry)... the city center is really fucked up right now - building collapses on Colombo St. They're still finding survivors and pulling bodies. and 2 nasty ass aftershocks on top of that one... not fun.
It was a really really cool city in it's own right - lotsa brick buildings (prolly pretty fraqed up now)... Plus there's a hell of a burner contingent there. I just hope we didn't lose any of our own in this one.
Just remember - it could have happened here just as easily. Be prepared.

Not only could it happen here, it WILL happen here. I live in Los Angeles, and it's just a matter of time.
Pictures coming in from Christchurch looks like lots of damage.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thanks for your concern. I'm in Wellington. A few people here felt the quake, I didn't.
Christchurch is a mess, it will be a while before we can get a full picture of the damage.
So far, we have no Kiwi burner casualties. A few have lost their homes though.
I'll try and keep you posted on here.
Is it inappropriate to post links to donation sites on here? NZ Red Cross and Salvation Army are leading the charge and in NZ at least, you can be sure the money will get to where it will work the best.

Thanks Sham,
The Salvation Army site says it has security issues so I'll just post the Red Cross info:

https://www.fundraiseonline.co.nz/fundr ... aspx?c=173
We seeing amazing acts of generosity from all over the country and the world. USA, Singapore, Japan, UK and Australia have all sent professional Search and Rescue teams and military. Local businesses and companies are sending supplies to Christchurch in huge quantities. As expected, we're seeing humanity at its best.
Thanks for all of your support. If anybody wants me to do anything more directly in NZ (contact friends/family etc), PM me.

According to this web site written up by a pack of Christ-o-holics the earthquake in New Zealand was caused by.... lesbians.
And here all this time I thought that the queer guys caused the earthquakes and the dykes caused the tsunamis.
I'm sure glad I've been set straight.
As if...

Ya, I saw that. Someone started a whole thread for that on it's own.Isotopia wrote:According to this web site written up by a pack of Christ-o-holics the earthquake in New Zealand was caused by.... lesbians.

Yeah, we killed the other thread right away, when it was pointed out to me that we were giving the creeps exposure.
Still makes my skin crawl though. Apparently the site is registered to a Utah address
Here's the latest NZ news....

I sneered at a Kiwi last night, saying that our Loma Prieta was twce as strong as theirs, but he pointed out that theirs was pretty much in the centre of town, whilst ours was centered in the Sta Cruz mountains. If we got a 6.2 in the middle of Silicon Valley, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
