when do the gates open?

Post by poeticphoto » Thu Jun 10, 2004 12:05 am

I've read things on the site before that talk about BRC not being open to burners before the start of the event unless you're there to help out, but now I can't find anything about the subject... If I can get a better deal on a plane ticket that would put me in Reno around noon on the 28th am I going to have to stay at the airport for 1.5 days? Who knows when the gates officially open?

What's wrong with Reno? Load up on salad bar nosh and participate in the gaming industry.

My current plan is to get into Reno Sunday morning, so I have all day to get the car and buy food, water & alcohol. I then plan to reach Black Rock City at midnight, since I'd rather set up a tent in the dark and be able to sleep there than some sleazy Reno hotel.

Do many people show up at midnight? Is it considered impolite to rush the greeters and DPW like that?

Midnite rush

You'll be in good company at midnite monday. The parking lot is full of people waiting to get in, and it kind of turns into a bit of a party. And you're not rushing the DPW -- they're asleep. You'll get to talk to the Graveyard Shift Lead for Gate.

To clarify...
It's so crazy out at Gate at midnite, that you'd be contributing to the stress of said Shift Lead.

Chill out along the edge of the Playa. It's beautiful at night.

Make sure you ask the Greeters about which areas of the city are open camping vs. reserved for theme camps. Unfortunately, if you set up in one of the reserved areas, you'll need to move your tent and camp elsewhere when those folks show up.
