Keg of beer vs. lots and lots'o cases...

I'm thinking of being one of those faceless, blue tarp camps that invites you and your buddies in for a cold one. In the past, I've brought the mongo cooler with umpteen cases and the ice,...

...but there's a certain elegance of a draft beer in the desert that appeals to the poet/alcoholic in me.

I know the Major Major camps (see Catch-22) have the full Coyote Ugly bar set ups, but my camp'll only have myself and two others so my question is this. Here's how I see it breaking down:

Bringing a keg to the desert, positives:
- Cold, tasty beer.
- Great way to meet the neighbors (their hangover is my gift to them)
- Zero trash, zero MOOP (Bring Yer Own Cup)
- No stinky half-filled beer cans (w/ciggy butts) in my SUV back to LA.
- Empty keg much lighter going home.

Negatives,:
- My back is already starting to hurt. Those fuckers are heavy.
- Can't use normal air tap or beer goes stale. Got to use CO2.
- CO2 plus fridge (kegerator) = $650.
- Keg = $80
- Keg sloshing around from LA to BRC = ?
- Just another problem added to what once was a simple camping (camping?) trip...

Thoughts?

It seems that you could scrounge up an old fridge to hack a hole in the door of for cheap, couldn't you?
And I assume you have a nice quiet generator to power it?
Or make a daily big ice run and forget having the fridge actually work?

There does HAVE to be a way for that nice cold draft beer to get there!

Having had some experience with both, I'd say:

Cans are far easier to keep chilled.

You can take the empty cans (NO BOTTLES!) to recycle camp, over even if you don't you can smash them flat for compact carrying home.

If you have a keg and invite people in for drinks, you have to deal with cups for them (more moop), cause not to many people will be wandering around the playa with their own.

Kegs, however, are just far classier and better tasting.

The decision, my son, must be yours and yours alone.
