Post-Playa Blues

Post by polyresin » Wed Sep 07, 2011 9:42 pm

I like my life, I am a happy person, but whenever I return from the playa, I am just sad for a while. This year I am especially haunted by the temple and its burn. I miss the playa and all its people. Sometimes I feel like I just start to feel at home, and then it's over. Life imitates art, I suppose.

Any thoughts? Similar feeling? Reassuring words? Just thought I'd put it out there :(

I've had the leaving-the-playa-blues since I left. I don't talk much to anyone. I've been real quiet since I got home. I've been in my room for the most part, and haven't cleaned the inside of my car yet. My car is still packed with my tent, shade canopy, air mattress, and a few other incidentals.

I'm sad it's over. I'm wondering how long this feeling lasts. you know, the mopey, ambivalent, empty, questioning, homesick feelings.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

It lasts until you realize... Hey, I can take this energy and SHARE it!!! Gift it to the world at large... I noticed today as I sat on my porch smoking a cig and drinking coffee... how weird this all is.... Colors are so vibrant after the playa... people are all wearing clothes... no one appreciates my spraying mist on them as they ride by on their bikes... But reallly, I can take this energy... This GIFT... and bring it to defaultia.....

Decompress... Take it easy... And later... figure out what you can do to bring a little piece of this energy to the "real" world...

Thanx for this. Cause I feel pretty shitty back in the default, rainy world here in the Netherlands... sob.

No, really!! Yes.. the playa blues exist. It's very true. My first year they were bad.. very bad. Tearing up at random moments for at least a week after. But.. after a couple of burns, you realize that yes.. it WILL come back, and the time will go by way faster than you think!

So listen.. seriously.. this is what you do. Start planning that awesome lighting/camp/costume project now. Dream big.. very big. Then.. start doing it. Start researching.. thinking.. planning.. doing. Before you know it, you've got yourself a nice little hobby. Keep plugging in to eplaya and staying in contact with beautiful people. Start making lists and brainstorming of what you want to do different next year, and back track on how you'll accomplish that.

One idea and request to the community: More custom lighting on the playa please! Forget the cheap/generic blinky toys. MAKE YOUR OWN!!

For example: My LED suit ROCKED this year. Wow. Mindblowing. The drawback though, was that the LED panels were too flexible being as that I used a fabric backing and they broke every night that I wore it. What I need is custom circuit boards made so that there is rigidity to them. So.. this morning.. I've already been researching and have found tons of online sources for them complete with free software to design the schematics. I'm comparing prices now. I'll find the best source, then begin to design the boards. Order boards.. order more LEDs.. start soldering.. and so on and so forth.

Only 359 days until the man burns!!! ARE YOU READY?!
