Burning Man Chef?
Burning Man Chef?
In the style of mystery basket food competitions...Iron Chef, Top Chef, and Chopped...where the chefs/cooks are challenged to produce a series of plates/meals with limited time, resources, and products...make it a stage or tent event, maybe camps offering up their best in a food challenge.
Intended for fun and participation along with some casual competition, does this still fall within the event theme are is it one step too far?
*****
For example 3-5 cooks step up to face the mystery basket with a burner/grill, pan/pot, chef knife, big spoon, and the clock.
A panel of 3-5 tasters/judges taste, comment, and rate the dishes.
The nightly winner takes home eternal personal and camp glory as well as a Burning Man Chef trophy.
Does this already take place? Am I way off base?
I see this as fun and entertainment, but it could just be me.
Thanks for any input.

I guess it was quite popular
Ah well, I suspect I would be too busy for a nightly event...maybe just one challenge...we shall see.

Re: Burning Man Chef?
This sounds like fun and I am a damn good cook, but planning something like this on playa time seems like the impossible dream.
I had all sorts of great plans for my first burn, but like battle plans - playa plans don't seem to survive much past the greeters station especially for first timers.
Atomicray, iirc this will be your first burn so I suggest you not plan for anything so involved your first burn.
But don't let that deter you if you really want to see this through - there are as many way to burn as there are burners. For me anything so structured was not meant to be on my first burn, but that doesn't mean you couldn't do better.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I suspect that you and many others are correct.
A first time trip should not be as planned as I intend, but indeed everyone burns a bit differently.
I may be many things, but I am not like many other people to be sure.
For me, over prepared is far more preferable to under prepared.
A single cooking challenge would be fun...a nightly one may become more like work lol.
It could be fun, but it is not on my top 10 things to do list...maybe number 12
Thanks for the suggestion and understanding my POV.
