The art of stunned confusion

Post by MOOP_Nazi » Sun Oct 09, 2011 8:03 pm

There are moments when you do something that you know may well backfire on you, yet some how, by the grace of almighty dog, you end up not paying the price for your "moment of bliss."

I give to you this example:

I was pulled over tonight by a state trooper. When he approached my car, I made sure my window was down and my hands were on the wheel. I wear a suit and tie to work and look professional when he approaches. He asks the standard "Do you know why I pulled you over?" In all honesty, I had no clue - I had cruise set to the speed limit, all my lights work, the vehicle is in good repair, and I had not changed lanes. I told him, that I did not. We then had the following exchange:
"I pulled you over because I saw you texting while you were driving."
I paused - "Sir, were there any other issues that caused you to pull me over?"
"No. You know texting while driving is against state law right?" He seemed a little defensive.
"Officer I assure you that I do know that and agree completely to it being made illegal."
"Then can I ask why you were texting?"
"Officer I wasn't texting. I was looking at eplaya."
"Excuse me?"
"I was looking at eplaya. I receieved a notification that a topic had been updated and I clicked a link to take me there. I honestly wasn't texting. I'd bew more than happy to show you my text log if you like."
He kind of looked at me for a moment and then just told me - "That won't be necessary. I would ask you not to do that either." He then turned around, got in his car, flipped his lights on and took off like a bullet...
Chances are he got a call about something more important, but still... I wish I had a camera to get a picture of his face...

Saved by the ePlaya! It has happened more than once!

I don't think it's a good idea to point ANYTHING at a cop during a stop or anytime for that matter.

A freind took a photo of an Idaho cop/trooper during a stop on our way to Sun Valley to ski, the cop went ape shit (drew his gun bla bla bla)...he calmed down after I let him know my freind was the winner of a free ski trip, except for transportation, and I was invited to go because I had the best vehicle.

I still have a copy of the photo somewhere...it was the 80's and the camera was big and had a long lense, lol.

I was pulled over by a police officer in June for using my cell phon while driving. My car is sporty looking and has tinted windows, plus the driver's seat sits low. I pulled into a gas station and turned off my car. Next to me sitting in their car were 2 young boys watching! I rolled down my window and put my hands on the steering wheel. I had just gotten off work and was in my scrubs. When he aproached my car, I looked at him, he looked at me.

Me: Hi officer. I know why you pulled me over.

Him: you do...

Me: yes, I was talking on my cell phone and I know it's against the law, and I shouldn't be doing it.

Him: I was following you from on ramp at Freya and 3rd.

Me: Really?? That far?

Him: Yep. Did you know you were swerving from lane to lane?

Me: Well, I knew I did at least twice.

Him: Did you know that not only can you get a ticket for the cell phone which is $XXX, but reckless driving is about $XXX and you could lose your license?

Me: (hanging head in shame about to cry) No I didn't know that. I was just coming home from work. Here's my license.

He took my license and went back to his car and paced back and forth stopped, paced a bit more, then came back.

Him: Don't ever drive while talking on your phone. You can lose too much for that! Don't ever drive while talking on your phone!.*said sternly.

Me: I promise I won't. I was talking to family about my mom. I should've just pulled over.

Him: Don't ever drive while talking on your phone! My fathers ill right now and we're having problems with where he'll be placed when he gets out of the hospital.

Me: I know that can be a tough decision. I'm a caregiver and sometimes families really stress about that. If he wants to come home, bring him home! Then hire a caregiver to take care of him.

Him: *looking at me with almost a look of defeat. He must really be thinking about his dad* Don't ever drive while talking on your phone. *hands me my license* Have a nice afternoon.

Me" thank you officer...I will...you too
*takes off in his car*

I look over at the two boys sitting in the car next to me, their eyes as big as plates. I smile and give them the thumbs up. They return the same and smile. And off I went. Sweating like crazy.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

i would never text and drive, ever! i have enough a hard enough time just driving

This is a tip for the ladies...

When i need to talk on the phone and drive I now put it on speaker phone and put the phone on my left boob. it is close enough for me to hear the other person and close enough for the person on the other end to hear me above the road noise.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Glad the cops are stopping people for using cell phones while driving. It's so easy to see people doing that even if you don't see the phone in their hand. They're always driving either too slow, or just crazily. Some people can barely chew gum and walk, let alone drive and talk on the phone, or--God forbid--text.

Studies show that doing anything with a cell phone while driving is as dangerous as DUI!!!

I've also seen people reading the newspaper (paper spread on lap and up onto steering wheel) putting make up on, putting a contact in and snorting something off a key all while driving...crazy

so i feel my boob phone is ok. i don't make outgoing calls, just answer it, but not always.

In Nevada the new law covers ALL electronic devices, not just phones so you could get busted for fiddling with your iPod or your GPS. The trooper I spoke to when I stopped one of them to ask about it said if it's in your hand they can stop you for it. I don't know what they'll do about using boobs to hold the phone though....that really is hands free.

yeah that is why i don't dial out a call while driving. i can't drive and be looking down at my phone for numbers. I will hit redial if I know that it is the person I need to talk to and they were the last person i talked to.

I saw a report the other day on one of the news channels in Reno. It stated that people were pulling over to talk on their cell phones. NHP was not to thrilled with this either.

Amazing how easily -- and inexpensively -- I have solved this problem. I do not have any of the electronic toys mentioned above.

And, to be sure, driving is a full time task.
