Laser Ball - DIY - toss it, juggle it, poi it, roll it...

Post by LeoneLabs » Fri Nov 11, 2011 3:43 pm

Hi all,
I debuted some Laser Poi Balls at Burning Man 2011 and I just finished documenting the full project. I made a cool music video and a full instructable. Now anyone can build their own Laser Balls! Let me know what you think!

Here's the music video and instructable:

Dangerous? maybe. Awesome? Definitely!

It's neat up close, but those red lasers don't produce good beam effects in general. My fear is that people are going to be disappointed with the beam effects and will seek out more powerful eye-dangerous lasers. You can improve the brightness without going over the 5mW dangerous limit by getting some green modules, but they use up a lot more current than those reds, and are usually larger. The violet lasers are even harder to see, and those blue lasers need to be powered up to substantially dangerous levels to be noticeably visible.
