Mutant Vehicle Forum
Mutant Vehicle Forum
Is there a great internet forum out there somewhere that deals with Mutant Vehicle design and preparation? This one doesn't seem all that busy.
Usually with stuff like this you can find ONE forum where all the really obsessive people go. With all the art cars I see every year, I'm so far surprised that I can find something similar.
Thanks for any help,
Dustin

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
In the past, all Burning Man Q&A stuff was on a single board, with the net effect being that conversation seemed stifled outside of half a dozen or so sticky topics. That's why things were broken out. You're in the right place to discuss mutant vehicles, it's just not terribly busy yet. It's the off-season, and I suspect that quite a few builders/creators need to take a few months off after the dust settles (the art car crews I worked with in the past were usually pretty dormant between decom and early spring).
But the ePlaya's got some incredibly resourceful people, many of which do have quite a bit of experience with Mutant Vehicles. So go ahead, post and ask questions and get that ball rolling

c = 1 gives the sequence 0, 1, 2, 5, 26,…, which tends to infinity...

God help us all.
You'll need a headset arrangement that allows you to talk on the computer.
Can be a real pain on some models.

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
One thing I cannot stress enough is a snorkel for your air intake, the dust can wreak havoc on the air filters if they suck up much of the dust. What a time consuming, dusty, dirty hassle it is to constantly bog down and have to bang the dust out of your air filters. I guess it all depends on what your base vehicle is, mine is a golfcart.
My funky moonmobile has a couple of vacuum cleaner hoses joined together and attached to the air intake box, a new hole was cut in the air intake box to fit this particular model, the hose was then run up through a cut out hole in the body, up the side of the post of the roof and through a cut out hole in the roof so that it gets mostly fresh, clean air. I also had to block the old air intake hole with a plastic cap glued in with quality silicone caulking. The little smaller holes on the air intake box are closed off with the same quality silicone caulking. I have to check the caulking from time to time, but so far no problems. The quality silicone caulking is flexible which is good, otherwise it could vibrate loose. I'll re-do the caulking before the next burn.
I used zip ties and strong duct tape to secure the vcuum cleaner hose to the roof post.

If that stuff hasn 't held well enough, I recommend Schnee-morehead adhesives.
For a really strong grip, they have a polyurethane I'll be using for steel to aluminum and wood on my trailer.
They have an acetone based acrylic I have used that will stick to bare aluminum.
Very flexible.

you may know by now..
as i see it theres really two ways to volunteer for DMV.. Off playa during the season they process all of the vehicle applications.. and on playa in a buncha various roles
the proccessing sessions are usually about 2 hours a few times a week. For these processing sessions they are done via computer application online and you may call in via skype, regular telephone.. or connect via the online application so you can discuss verbally whether vehicles meet the expectations or not..
after a training session that you can get completed online (last year used the same online system as the processing session used) you learn how to do DMV work on the playa..
i myself already have commitments on the playa and do my volunteering for DMV off playa in the form of processing sessions...
I will be doing em this up coming year.. it's fun stuff.
as for on playa volunteering with DMV ive never done it.. all i know is from the things ive learned overhearing stuff over the years..
if you arent already get on the dmv email list and dmv announce list
(i do not represent or have any special role in the dmv, i just do some volunteering, so some of the stuff above might be wrong)

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
application processing takes a few months.. maybe like may/june/july ..you can do it sitting on yer butt eating chef boyardee, it's mostly come as you please.. you dont sign up..
on playa vehicle processing you actually gotta sign up for a shift and stuff, and they totally expect you to show up and be sorta presentable.. and all that stuff.
most likely best roles on playa for a new person among the many would be..
a dmv greeter.. who gives out forms and points people where to go control who goes where.
a fluffer.. kind of a support role, get stuff that needs did.. done and help
and a hottie.. which verifies the application.. takes pics.. inspects.. does paperwork.. decides to give license or not
ive never done any on playa dmv stuff..(i did do the training thing) but id imagine if i was going to sign up for some shifts in 2012 id start off with some greet shift or two then move up to doing a different role like 'hottie' once i figured out how it all went down..
of course the training session thing will help and cover all of this stuff.. and the DMV volunteer coordinator/management team should be able to answer questions..
..stuff may be dif in 2012,, who knows! but .. this was sorta likw how i remember it being in 2011

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
I don't really understand this question, but day passes only exist as a special thing for tours and unusual things, like deliveries.HiBbY wrote::::D thank ya lema

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
My question is do volunteers get passes to the burn while they arent at work???

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
If you work enough shifts on the playa, there are discounts available for the next year's tickets.
Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
Ok thank you, Volunteers are indeed required to buy a ticket then yes?

Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
Yes, unless they find you especially indispensable.
Re: Mutant Vehicle Forum
Ok thank you for the info, ive been putting off the purchase of my ticket until I could figure out how that worked. you've been quite helpful XXD

Everybody knows that the English are incapable of the creativity and good cooking needed to make viable MVs.
