Wow, I don't even remember the map before 2007.
I think what happened is that this was the first year the map was made public, and people had to actually face the reality of how careless their "leave-no-trace" was.
Improvement has been fairly steady, since.

I think that was the first year of the map. That's just how things were back then.

Yeah- I'm pretty sure this was the first year of the public map (other than the one that sometimes was shown at SF Decompression). Using this and actually holding registered camps responsible for their moop has vastly changed how careful people are, at least in their own camp clean-up (I don't want to go into the messes left in the open playa...)theCryptofishist wrote:I think what happened is that this was the first year the map was made public, and people had to actually face the reality of how careless their "leave-no-trace" was.
It's a camping trip in the desert, not the redemption of the fallen world - Cryptofishist

That was the year my son went with me. I was really disappointed to see the area of our camp.. We had stayed after it cleared out.. I use a rake to mark where we picked moop for 200 feet around our camp.. It still come up yellow..

Maybe they were just being too picky.

Nope, if anything the guidelines were more relaxed in that year than they have been in years since. For more info, take a look at the Burning Blog post series from earlier in the fall titled "MOOP Map Live" - there are some great posts about this year's process, as well as some history behind it.
