Don't Hate on Me for My RV
Hello Out There: My husband and I will be traveling from DC to attend BM for the first time. We're kinda old--I'm 47, he's even older--but love to have new experiences and meet crazy ass people. I'm busy reading all the practical stuff and making lists while he's using his big right side brain to come up with the fun shit. This was a very last minute thing (we just decided last week), so we're doing the RV thing (i know boo hiss) to get the lay of the land and be self-reliant in the laziest, easiest way possible. Namaste and Peace the Fuck Out.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Are you sure you're not to old to go to Burning Man?

Welcome.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Welcome to ePlaya!
Don't worry about the social ramifications of being in an RV; maybe 40%(?) of the city uses one. They make nice windblocks.
Keep generator use to polite hours if at all possible, and be friendly neighbors, and it should work out fine.

Re: Don't Hate on Me for My RV
welcome!!
nothing wrong with RVing....nothing. don't let anyone tell you you're "doing it wrong" for that reason!! sure, maybe other things......but not for an RV.
You, make your Burn, how You want it!! Fuck them who says otherwise.
As Savannah sagely advises, genny noise and exhaust is nice to control and be conscious of for neighbors, though.
Read all you can, and search this site, for lots of good advice and info.

Re: Don't Hate on Me for My RV
Welcome to ePlaya! While camping in an RV isn't my thing, lots of people do it. Just try to be mindful of your neighbors. I've had horrible RV neighbors (who park a giant wall either in or on the edges of our camp and then run noisy generators 24/7) as well as awesome RV neighbors and campmates (they say hello, make sure there's space, etc) - it's the person, not what they're sleeping in.
The drive from DC sounds like it will be quite an adventure. If you haven't read the first-timer's guide and survival guide, do that. Take a look around the boards, plenty of questions you may have will already have been asked (if you don't see it, post your question). Good luck, and hope to see you guys out there!

Hey, you being new here and all, I figure I'll reach out and ease your worries. You just need to set up your RV up wind from my tent on the outer ring, I'll act like the rig is mine, give all the neighbors the impression that it belongs to me. They'll see me all well rested and clean, fixin' snacks on the stove, popping a cold one out of the mini-fridge, inviting lovelies over for a night-cap...... To complete the act, you and yours can pretend my tent and cot are yours. You see, as my gift to you, and the community, I'll let everyone hate on me !!!
yeah, yeah, or do as the following post says....

Above all, make friends with your neighbors.

Yup, plenty of us. I did my first burn at 45. I'll celebrate 52 this year on playa. Just be aware of the effect the burn can have on any mid-life crisis thoughts-you may end up rethinking your entire existence and traveling roads joyfully you never imagined you'd be on!

Hello and welcome! No RV hating here as I plan to use one next burn. My first and only burn I traveled from Georgia and did the tent thing which was fine but going across country and being at the burn will be a bit easier in an RV. Have a blast!

Re: Don't Hate on Me for My RV
I'm taking a small RV, also. From what I've learned here on the forum, bringing an RV, itself, isn't horrendous, but it might hinder your experience if you stay cooped up in it. I am planning on just using mine for sleeping and building a shade structure to hang out in for the rest of the time to be a bit more social. Safe travels and I hope you have fun! Oh, and since when is 47 OLD??

Re: Don't Hate on Me for My RV
We take an RV, but only because its offered by my beloved Mama. She loves that she doesn't have to clean it at the end of her camping season (because its pointless really before the burn) and it's returned spotless to her. Win-Win.
I do admit though that I feel like I'm cheating for having never experienced BM in a tent. To combat this senseless guilt and the feeling that I'm missing a certain part of the playa magic, I use the RV and its amenities to do nice things for campers around us. I cook for our campers. and others. a lot. I let them use the kitchen. I make coffee in the morning and surprise people with it. Iced Coffees! In Exodus last year we were cooking stir fry and passing it out to people in line. We had lots of cold drinks left over so we were passing those out to.
And of course we do our best to limit the generator usage for the sake of campers around us. It's just a nice thing to do.

Oh my dear RV friends, I am still available to ease your guilt by taking your place in your RV.
I am here to shield you from the winds of envy, which you called hate.
And if this is not to be, please, don't hate me for my smell.
Oh yeah, I'm 50, so very tragic that you became sort-of old at such a young age.

I RV, but I pitch a tent for sleeping/personal space/gear storage/costume changes...the RV is my kitchen, dust shelter, and dinning room...try it.Pippi wrote:I do admit though that I feel like I'm cheating for having never experienced BM in a tent.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

Some people have the resources and don't even bring a tent.
