How do I find a Plug & Play/Turnkey Camp to join?
Could anyone provide any info about joining a "plug & play / turn key camp"?
From what I understand there are themed camps, in which you must be invited to join and participate with constructing,
and there is also plug & play / turn key camping in which one pays a fee and shows up ready to go.
1. where can a list be found?
Finding the right camp is important for me, I personally am looking for a camp that likes to party and have fun!

Write me a personal check, wait, better yet, make it a cashier's check, for $12,650 and I will set you up. I swear.

My camp would have been perfect. We only charge $12,500 but no one in my group likes to party and have fun. So you need to be ready for some serious seriousness to stay with us.

Re: How do I find a Plug & Play/Turnkey Camp to join?
There are no published lists of turnkey camps. And for what it's worth, your understanding of what defines a turnkey camp is inaccurate. While some might operate as posh accommodations for lazy rich dopes, many are essentially support infrastructure camps that take care of a lot of the essentials for participants who are devoting all their time to working on other things (ie building the temple, leading talks/workshops, performing throughout the week, etc). The placement team does publish a partial list of camps who have applied for placement in early summer, but that does not specify any details in either dues or amenities for campers - it's intended as a directory listing of some of the camps that participants might want to look up on the playa, not a tool to shop for camps. You'll either need to do some work to find a camp to join, or send that check off to Doc

Re: How do I find a Plug & Play/Turnkey Camp to join?
Plug n Play camping generated quite a bit of flame warring on ePlaya and in the main burningman.com blog. If you search in both locations, you will find some of those camps talking about themselves. I would conjecture that even the PnP camps would be selective about whom they do business with, in other words, you might have to apply and commit to some camp activities. If you can find the RV vendors who supply camps, they might put you in touch with organizers. Some may deliver an RV to a solo camper with food and supplies, not sure about costumes.
And if you are in a city with a year round burner crowd, you can also learn about camp options from them. Or you could become the big man on campus in financing a camp, like Barbie Death Village.
Although the BM experience itself is intense and amazing, the long time relationships with the people you meet there, especially in your camp, working together, are the real value. You may also find you have some special knowledge or creativity to contribute to your camp.

I strongly suggest you read the main burning man website and the ten principles. Then you might consider coming back and rephrasing or describing the sensation of pulling your head out of an impossible body location.

Anakin Skywalker: Master, sir, I heard Yoda talking about turnkey camps. I've been wondering...what are turnkey camps?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Turnkey camps are a microscopic lifeform that reside within all living cells and communicates with the Cognitive Dissonance.
Anakin Skywalker: They live inside of me?
Qui-Gon Jinn: In your cells, yes. We are symbionts with them-
Anakin Skywalker: Symbionts?
Qui-Gon Jinn: Life forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the turnkey camps, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Cognitive Dissonance. They continually speak to you, telling you the will of the Cognitive Dissonance. When you learn to open your wallet, you will hear them speaking to you.
Anakin Skywalker: I don't understand.
Qui-Gon Jinn: With money and connections, Annie, you will. You will.

Ondreya3000, I’m glad you posted your inquiry. It is important that someone serves as a bad example.
From you post, I can only conclude that you would be a detriment to the Event. Sure, there is plenty of Party and Fun at the Burning Man Art Festival, but that’s not the reason for the event. Burning Man is a gathering of artists and people who enjoy art. And it is an Experimental Community. And it is supposed to have no spectators – everyone participates and contributes. A bit of dancing around half drunk is just frosting on the cake.
And creating your own camp is an intrinsic part of the concept. Now, as Trilobyte mentions, there are people who contribute so much that they do not have time to set up their own camp. In these cases, it make sense that others set up their camp for them, cook their food and such. The net result is a benefit to the Community.
But the Burning Man Art Festival is not a resort hotel. If all you want to do is “party”, with everything provided for you, you might want to look for a cruise ship that caters to your age group, or a ski lodge, or spring break in Florida, or some such.
Yes, some of us think of ourselves as gatekeepers for Burning Man. We do this because we feel the Burning Man ethos is worth protecting.
Good luck finding a vacation that suits your mindset.

What you get when you go with them is transportation up and back, a place to camp, meals, water, snacks, and a communal shade structure. You've also got a bit of a ready-made community for you. I've never gone with them, but I have friends that have multiple times. There are a lot of people from outside the US, as GT makes it a lot easier for folks traveling internationally to attend Burning Man. For instance, a friend is a single mom in Brazil and doesn't know many other Burners. She manages to make it up here every year and participate, but without GT it'd probably be a bit too much for her to manage.
Note that one thing you do -not- get with GT is a shade structure for your tent, so you can pretty much forget about sleeping once the sun is up unless you bring your own shade structure (which you may have to arrange with GT for an extra fee, as they are space/weight-sensitive).

Wait, what? I was supposed to get a support camp because I volunteered on the Temple? When did that happen?

There's a world of difference between volunteering with the temple and camping with David Best (2012 temple builder) and his crew. He and his team run a pretty amazing setup, my campmates and I had the pleasure of being neighbors with them back in 2007... Incredible operation.

Burning Man is booking those through Carnival Cruises. Call 'em up and they'll hook you up.

Do you suppose Larry builds his own shade structure and camp or does he just pay someone to drive in the posh RV and cook and clean for him?

And I think this thread is done. It appears that the original poster is not engaging in a public discussion, but starting a thread on a controversial topic and then attacking people that he/she deems negative via private messages. If you receive anything that constitutes a personal attack via private message, you can contact myself or one of the other moderators via private message.
