Booo! I'm unable to go to the 2013 burn

I am very sad that I am unable to go to Burning Man this year. Having secured a new job last month, I am unable to get the time I need for my burn.

I admit that this is a - Poor MEEEeee post. Sure, I will probably survive missing one year. Maybe, I guess... If I have to. {sigh}

So, you lucky bastards that have secured your time off, have a ticket in the works and are getting your gear together - have fun. Please, on thursday sunset - have a beer for me.


I have schemed various scenarios in a vain effort to actually make it on the playa. Unfortunately, I have a 3000Km drive (1 way) just to get to Fernley. Flying seems to take 1/2 a day no matter which airline or stopovers I make. Not to mention that annoying customs thing. The best I could hope for is to make it for the weekend... Which hardly seems worth it. (??) Ok, it would be worth it. What the hell was I saying -- it is ALWAYS worth it.

I guess I could try flying directly to Reno. It is not really that much more than flying to San Fran. And, um, maybe rent a car from there. or maybe hitch a ride or .. uh, ok... I have to think this through. See who is doing what. Maybe it is possible after all. {hope?}

Although, after spending 21 days on the playa last burn, 3 days seems just so short...

Anyhow. Yah - poor me. I hope everyone who goes has a fucking AWESOME time!!!

Checking through flights. the cost is double what I would normally pay and the times are not supportive so far. {sigh} - as I begin to think about charting a plane to fly me from here to BRC... (yup, I kinda really wanna be there!!)

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who has life interfering with what I really want.

I was you last year, but even worse. One thing after another prevented me from going for 4 god damn years, so there I was last year... I had a ticket, I even had early entry passes, I had all my shit set to go - and I got a new, better job that I really needed, in July. And not only that but the only other person there who could cover me already had that exact week scheduled off. AND I even covered my old job that week at the same time for the old company while someone else there was on vacation - so for the time during BM last year I worked double. So I had to forfeit, AGAIN. There was NO way to go. This year, it's been five damn years now, I'm all set, but I missed out on getting tickets... I'm pretty sure something will come through, but man I totally know how you feel, I'm not even 100% out of the darkness yet!
And yes, I was also looking into the desperate possibility of just zooming in for the weekend but it just wasn't gonna be.

i got a promotion to a new department and start on June 10th. they would not guarantee my vacation request but i knew that when i accepted the job.
so i have a couple of weeks to become indispensable to my new manager; she will find a way to get me the time off.

On the one hand, woohoo for the new job, but on the other, I'm very sorry to hear it. Enjoy the new gig, bide your time, think of it as a really early start on next year, and we'll raise a glass on Thursday at sunset. Actually, howzabout raising a glass at sunset on Wednesday night, too - the Meet n Greet will be that night, we'll get a big toast going around.
