Ok, when it comes to faux fur, I am the dumbass. Where do you go to get?

The last ime I bought some, I went to Mendels on Haight.

You didn't state if you were looking for fabric or finished clothing.

For fabrics in SF, basically look up any fabric store & go to them. You're pretty much guaranteed they'll have some. Shop around for prices - Britex is going to be lots more expensive than, say, Discount Fabrics, but they'll all carry it. SF is sorta "Burner Central" after all.

For finished clothing: try stores along Haight St, any costume store, and you can try your luck at thrift stores (if you have time to keep checking & are a common size). Pre-made fake-fur clothing isn't going to be cheap, but if you can't sew, or don't have someone who you can get to sew for you, it's a convenient way to go.

If you're confident of your sizing, just google fake-fur (or faux fur) and clothes. You'll get tons of options to choose from. Just remember custom clothing is on the expensive side.

Etsy and search burning man faux fur coat. There is the famous banner ad advertiser from Tribe, the American Apparel of BM. But suggest you find a regular costume-maker in your area and send all your work to them. Made to order in your size from fabrics you select with your design for pockets even compartments for camel back water bladders or lighting.

Discount Fabrics (I think that's the name) at Mission and 16th (or 17th) has had a sale on faux fur every year I've been there at around this time. It's usually something like 40% off, and with Faux Fur, that's some real cash. Give them a call and see if they are running their sale yet, and if not, when it starts. Good luck.

I did go to DF, I mentioned that it was for a BM project, did not get a lot of help, the gal pointed over there is the fur. She did not even get up to help or ask for more input to provide material selection and guidenance, just a finger point in the direction of fabric . I ended up going up to Mendels on Haight.

If you are looking for finished, I know that fur is above my sewing capability, so I went with Nikki Doran of

wasn't cheap, but my coat rocks and has stuff that I would not have been able to do myself (reversible, pockets with zippers, pocket for "water" pouch... etc)
