A First! The Burning man Strings Symphony!

Post by pigtails » Sun Mar 09, 2014 12:34 am

My name is Laura (AKA Pigtails) I play second violin in an adult education string symphony in Southern California.

The symphony plan,,,,Put together a petite string program that will include 5 pieces. I would like to have a couple of rehearsals (at Burning Man) in the mornings, early in the week. Then, have a 6 pm, concert each Eve for Evening Pops! (No, you don’t have to attend all) We’ve also had someone inquire about playing at a Playa Marriage. How cool would THAT be!

Please visit my blog at www.playapops.com for more info and sign up.
Best,
Pigtails

If someone were committed to learning the 5 songs, would you consider an "All-skate," maybe one song per program, with other instruments? I am thinking of bringing an erhu, a Chinese bowed string instrument, and think it would be possible to contribute to a symphony sound.

regards fine wooden instruments on playa: Please read whatever you can find on how to store and protect your instrument, whether it is even wise to bring a nice one. Consider a beater version that won't break your heart if it gets damaged.

Awesome idea, though it's hardly a first (BRC's had symphonies, choral groups and even operas out there before). I ran into a symphony group in I think 2005, I don't recall if they had a name for their group but it was clear they'd been doing it out there for years.

This is a great idea, even if it has been done in years past. If I had even an ounce of music-making talent in my body, I would readily volunteer. But, alas, I can only listen and enjoy the music that others create. Though I cannot contribute, I will be listening for you on playa.
