Functional Shelter as Art

Post by Serin » Tue Apr 08, 2014 10:00 pm

In 2011 , ( my first burn ) I went down B and D streets off of 6:30 and for 300' it was beautiful! Camps as art! So came up with a shelter that is easy to set up , light weight and looks like a large animal. Two 8'x 7' walls as paintable canvas! Would like to make a few of these and place them in a row. Any way , think that flexible plastic tarps on metal frames make for bad shelter. Much better to have a stiff skin like wood veneers. Then the wind can't get under it and yank at it. I use a 1/4 " plywood on 1"x2" frame. 8' x 6' by 7' high box at a slight angle for wind sheer with ( 2x ) 5' x 6' rounded tents on each side to shed most of the wind off. Sets up in about 30 mins and is bullet proof. weighs about 150 lbs. finish floor size is 20' by 6' . And dust free! consider wood much more versitle than plastic. Good Luck

Also, wood doesn't fold. Try packing that in your carry-on or bundling it into a rental car. Different styles for different logistical set-ups.
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.
