Here is a thread to wildly speculate about why certain things happen at the event.

Here is my first wild speculation:

Bikes were left on the playa in such large numbers last year because of the police pulling so many people over for obstructed license plates due to rear bike racks.

First Camp is only a diversion. The real first camp is Opulent Temple, and the day Opulent Temple stops showing up is the day that you'll know Burning Man is now owned by Coachella, LLC.

Sound camps are a distraction. They function by attracting all the crappy people who attend Burning Man looking for a massive rave to segregated sections of the city, which are then designed to trap you in a whirlwind of music and lightshows. By strategically placing them on the edges of the city, they bother the least amount of folks doing business, stick to themselves in very obvious locations, and they don't bring the frat party across the rest of the playa. The MOOP is contained to ten o'clock and two o'clock, for the most part. The noise travels across the playa, giving the city that pulse we all know, but away from the city so the least amount of people are bothered. The big DJ lineups are used to draw people in to central camps on ten and two, further distancing the worst kinds of tourism from the best parts of the city. The day party locations in the city are placed in such a way that the MOOP is predictable and you know where to avoid if you aren't looking for a massive boom-boom party.

Sound camps are honeypots for ravers!
