Waze App Usage?

I saw for last year there was an option to join a "group" on Waze and see other cars driving to Burning Man.

For those of you that used this last year, can you give a review?

Was it actually useful?

I have a Windows8 phone so unfortunately Waze doesn't yet support the groups function, but I was curious to see if it was worth my passengers' time to try and join it from their phones.
